The best high school football trick play ever

Fake field goals rock, and fleaflickers are awesome... I just love the inventiveness. When that kid faked out the defense by acting like "well, the play's dead" and then he turned and flung it, that was academy award acting there... :D

I can't imagine how long that took to perfect. I could throw a football at the ground 10 times, and 10 times it would bounce a different direction.

Barry,

Here is how my highschool lost in the playoffs, it was in Sports Illustrated, Butch and his famly are close with my family, neighbors growing up, parents are still to this day. It sucked, he still gets crap for it 24 years later. Dunno if there is a video out there somewhere.

"In Football Clock Management, I told of a game in which the QB of the leading team stopped playing after the final gun sounded. An opposing player stuck out his hand offering congratulations. When the QB extended his hand to shake, the defender stole the ball and ran the length of the field for the game-winning touchdown.
I received an email from a player in that game. Phil Barnett was a junior tight end on the Shawnee Mission South High School team that lost the game. He gives these details. At the snap, there were about six seconds left. QB Butch Ross took the snap, ran around with and never took a knee. Shawnee Mission West free safety John Richert extended his hand to Ross after the horn. He stole the ball when Ross extended his hand and ran about 30 yards for the game-winning touchdown. This was a regional playoff game in front of a crowd of about 6,000 or 7,000. Sports Illustrated wrote a brief article about it."

Rodney Pete (pro nfl quarterback) was our quarterback the following year so things did improve.

Wow, that is incredible. That would have been something to see.

That is hilarious.

Yea, Butch took it REALLY hard for a long time, you have no idea how bad it devistated him to lose the championship game that way. I really think it shapped his character into who he is today more than anything else in his life, IMO it was that 6 seconds that he owes everything too.

He now owns a chain of hotels, VERY successfull guy and volanteers every year as a little leauge footaball coach, he has for 15 ish years, he loves it.

He's a very dynamic guy.

man Chip...first the GTO story, then THIS?....you have been involved in some dynamic situations hahaha....though i just got done watching Yes Man on tv...life is strange indeed...

The really good ones have to stay off the boards but there are lots of them from me and my crazy group of friends and family over the years.

GTO story was boring, lots of crazy car things have happened to me over the years. LOTS!

fair enough :-)
i was in a (fairly) successful rock band for years, and somesuch stories live with me, and only me...
i'm so glad i wasn't boring...i'm sue you feel the same.

"fairly" is the operative word. Daredevil Jane was the band...i think they're still on itunes/myspace and what not...had a different drummer at the tail end then they gave up. we had a good run though.

If anyone asks I just tell them Daredevil Jane has been on tour in Europe for while :)

Funny, I grew up with Wes S., Puddle of Mud lead singer, he is from KC, polo shirt wearing prep back in the day :) Lots of crazy stories there, now he has a little boy Jordan and is pretty low key for a rock star, I keep in touch with his cousin Melena more now, she host E! news on the E! Entertainment channel, hot spokes model. Really sweet gal but I need to keep these stories off the boards. :)
