The Annual "Where's my rebate goodies" thread

Does anyone know where/how to check on the progress of the mail-in rebates for the HMC80? Seems like in years past that Panasonic would at least acknowledge when they received your rebate forms-

I would really like to have that case for my HMC80-- not much fun unboxing and reboxing with every use (yes, I'm a cheapskate that doesn't want to buy something in the interim!)

Thanks again, everybody!

Try this link. Not much info but they do acknowledge receipt of your rebate form, or they did mine anyway.

I also am using the "box" carrying case method as I selected both camera cases as my rebate items. Just can't see purchasing a 3rd case for this cam but 8-13 weeks seems like a long time to wait.

Having done several rebate deals with Panna, you should pay heed to what the old sooth-sayer say:

"He who has low expectations, will not be disappointed."

Panna has always been slow to choke up the goods. For the life of me, I don't understand why they think pissing people off on these rebates is good business. I was once given the excuse that the fulfillment company was the problem. And I asked, "who hired them and pays them?" The conversation was over at that point.

Other rebate deals I have done with Tascam and Maxell have been extremely quick, so I know it CAN be done.

Yeah- this will be my 3rd "rebate" process with Panasonic cameras. This one has been the most worrisome for the complete lack of information from Panasonic.
renodan- thanks for the link-- they don't seem to have me in the system- it's been about 8 weeks since I sent it in. Doesn't look promising.

Panasonic Rebates

Panasonic Rebates

I sent my rebate in via certified mail. You can do that even if it's a post office address, the owner of the post office box still has to sign to receive certified mail.

Sending your rebate via certified mail ensures that a) it did not get lost, b) you mailed it within the time-frame required (hopefully), and most importantly, c) you have proof that someone at Panasonic received it when you receive the signed certified card that comes back to you indicating the date it was received and the signature of the person that signed for it at Panasonic.

It is a pain because you have to pay a few bucks to send it Certified and make a trip to the post office but the advantages outweigh the extra work in my opinion.

You can also call this telephone number for status on your rebate:

800-524-1448

Here's an updated phone number specifically for the rebates:

1-866-339-4296

Here's the news- I used the email link on the rebate website to see if they had any information for me. The site states that they will "get back before the end of the next business day." I emailed on Sunday... got a response Wednesday! This was after I had called, but the two responses were the same; they have received my forms and I have been approved for the rebates I chose. The email information added that they are waiting on Panasonic for stock, so take that for what it is worth. At least there is some sort of hope- even if the rebate page doesn't seem to be up do date with their databases....

"yes, I'm a cheapskate that doesn't want to buy something in the interim!)"

Oh...don't want to buy what you already own? Hmmm.

and then..

"I was once given the excuse that the fulfillment company was the problem. And I asked, "who hired them and pays them?" The conversation was over at that point."

Heh. Stupid logic..has a way of abbreviating communication.

I notice the 370 rebate seems to be extended. Is this so with the 80?

Yay! A Positive sign for us all! I still haven't seen a thing- of course all the issues in Japan right now might be an issue...

My USPS tracking shows they received it on 3/18, they didn't log it in till 4/07 and that's the date they call "received it", was told they don't have the accessories in stock from panasonic yet and I have to waite till 7/07 for three months, I am jut hopping it doesn't take longer. I can tell you somebody is not doing their job, wether it's the fulfillment company or panasonic.

I think I sent in my rebate paperwork in early February. They tell you once they approve your paperwork, it takes up to 3-4 months to get it. That was about right.

Got the VariZoom unit today (7/5/11)- On May 4th I received an e-mail saying that my items (still no case) would be shipped in "a couple of weeks." Hopefully that will help others gauge how long they have to go on their rebate/incentives. The VariZoom is awesome! I'll probably be annoying viewers with selective focus shots for some time to come!

Product Registration Issues With Rebate Items

Product Registration Issues With Rebate Items

I thought I'd comment on a recent experience that no doubt others will encounter after receving their rebate item(s):

If you purchased the Panasonic AG-HMC80 this year prior to the end of the rebate, which ended March 31st 2011, you would have had a choice of two items out of a total of four.

One of the items I selected and recently received was the VariZoom ROCK lens controller. It's a excellent piece of equipment and works flawlessly. Even if you had to purchase this wth your own cash it would be well worth the cost because of the increased flexibility and control the ROCK lens controller provides. In addition it's very well made. And I thank Panasonic for making it available as part of a rebate.

However, when you receive your items from the rebate you will not receive with them any indication that they are from a Panasonic rebate, nor will you have any kind of paper trail or receipt (other than your receipt for the HMC80 purchase of course which does not show or say anything about the rebate or the items you've selected for your rebate).

The VariZoom ROCK lens controller I received came with a small warranty card from VariZoon and on it was mentioned that the product should be registered (so that should you ever need maintence on it your name and the product will be on file).

Unfortunately, without any kind of receipt most companiies will be unable to register your product. This does not necessarily mean you will not be able to get service should you need it, but that if there's a registration process it will be difficult to accomplish as a resut of the "blind" rebates.

This is an issue that Panasonic should address in future rebate offers. Some kind of paper trail should be provided so that you are able to register your rebate product with the manufacturer (if there is a registration process).

I have to give VariZoom kudos for their assitance and attitude with this issue - I was very pleased with their customer focused attitude and assitance. I also decided to contact the rebate center and explain the situation and they were also very helpfull and contacted VariZoom directly on my behalf.

So just be aware that you may run into a similar issue with any of the other items you may have selected as part of your Panasonic rebate.

Good luck!

Thermodyne case arrived today (7/14/11) via UPS. Glad I was home! Just posting this so others who are waiting might have a measure of when they might expect their rebate items.
