The A-Team movie!

It's rather like expecting a Snickers bar to deliver the flavor and nutritional value of a meal prepared by a health-conscious chef.
No. It's like expecting a Snickers bar to have a good blend of real milk chocolate, peanuts and toffee, instead of chocolate made from powder milk, half the bar being solid miscolored toffee not properly covered up, the other side missing a piece and being mostly chocolate and there's only one peanut in there.

EDIT: Except it's a 12 dollar Snickers bar that takes two hours to eat and you're not getting your money back so you can either throw it away or sit through it.

No. It's about getting what you expect with a snickers bar, just as you do with an A-Team movie. :)

It's fine that you all want more, no argument there. Some of us just have realistic expectations.

Just saw it. I actually enjoyed it. It was so preposterous that I just had to check all logic at the ticket counter. The action scenes were entertaining and acting was passable. I thought Rampage would really stink it up but he was pretty funny and totally did not bother me.

The tank thing was laughable but shot well. I can't say spend $10.50 but if you have it lying around and want some mindless summer entertainment, check it out.

Pretty much agree with this and wasn't really a fan of the original show (I only saw it when it used to be on FX years ago). It's all the things you expect from a big summer movie, loud, cliched, light on plot and character development (that's not to say that it doesn't have some of those things because that would be preposterous) but ultimately it's enjoyable to watch and it is what it is. It's more Rambo III then First Blood but not as violent or graphic...also better acted then Rambo III. The guy that played Pike did the best job imo.

It pretty much hit 11 or 12 of the suggested points...

So…..let me get this straight. It's better than GI Joe? :2vrolijk_08::2vrolijk_08::2vrolijk_08:

You would never think that from it's poor weekend b.o. numbers $27m, about half of g.i. joes $54m. Heck, the Karate Kid is going to do over $50m this weekend.

10 years of development for a $27m opening weekend, there went their franchise down the drain.

I think from what I've seen of the trailers, The A-team makes Rambo III look like a freaking documentary or a war film based on true events.

As a big fan of the TV show, I LOVED IT! My wife (who has never seen an episode of the show) also really enjoyed it. It's my fav. summer movie so far.

So I had a movie date with my wife yesterday, and we saw the A-Team matinee followed by Sex and the City 2. It was quite the juxtaposition. Like Brandon, I grew up with and absolutely loved the show. My wife had never really seen it before, but she quite enjoyed the movie. I, on the other hand, LOVED IT!

The story: It’s serviceable. While this is certainly no Bourne movie, I have to disagree with all the critics who say story is completely absent. There is a simple, but reasonable story there that works fine within the movie’s world.

Characters: While I disagree about the absence of story, I do agree there is absolutely no character development. None. At all. Oh, they try and do some stuff with B.A., but it comes off as contrived and could have been taken out and all they would have lost was one gag. However, I didn’t come to the A-Team looking for an in depth psychological profile of Gulf War veterans gone fugitive, so I can let this slide.

Special Effects: Pretty well done for the most part. The nice thing is they weren’t overdone to the point they draw attention to themselves. However, given the subject matter you can’t help but pick up on a few of them.

The Actors: Casting for this film was great. I was nervous about some of the choices, but impressed with the results. The four that make up the team were really greater than the sum of their parts. They definitely had a good chemistry going when working together.
- Liam Neeson (Hannibal): He nailed Hannibal. He has a great charm but his authority still comes through. I totally bought him as the Colonel driving these ‘so crazy it just might work’ kind of plans. My only problem with Neeson was his voice – anytime I hear his voice, no matter what the movie, I end up thinking “Hey, that’s Liam Neeson,” distracting me from the movie.
- Bradley Cooper (Face): Cooper pulled off the smooth man Face really well. We didn’t see much of the con-man side. The glasses were a nice touch.
- Rampage Jackson (B.A.): If you were nervous about this part, don’t be. Rampage is true to form for B.A.
- Sharlto Copley (Murdoch): I was really impressed with Copley! He pulled of Murdoch in spectacular fashion. A review I read earlier said it best about how crazy Murdoch is – he is a dangerous crazy, not the fuzzy cute crazy you usually see from these kinds of characters. Copley makes you believe that crazy, while still bringing the warm bits of Murdoch’s side.
- Patrick Wilson (Lynch): Lynch’s character seems to have two sides – the cold, calculating agent early on, and teenage yahoo later on. I wish they stuck more with the cold side, he did that well and the yahoo was just firing off on-the-nose remarks.
- Brian Bloom (Pike): I wish we got to see more of this guy. What a great villain. He was only in a few scenes, but he owned the scenes he was in.
- Jessica Biel (Sosa): Biel was the actor I was most nervous about, and most pleasantly surprised with. I kind of groaned when I saw her name was on it, but she actually did a stellar job as Sosa. She definitely comes across as determined and driven. I felt bad for her as half of her lines were on-the-nose comments explaining to the audience what we were seeing. She did well with what she had.

Camerawork: Lots of fast movement. For the most part, it was fine, but during some of the action sequences combined with the fast cut editing I found it really hard to follow.

Editing: Some of the action scenes, particularly near the beginning, were cut way to fast for my liking. Combined with the camerawork, I had trouble following what was going on. I don’t know if the film slowed it down a bit, or I just sped up, but this seemed to be less and less of a problem as the movie went on.

I really liked how they intercut the shots of the mission planning and execution. It works really well here.

The throwbacks: were all there. The van, the mini-14s, the making stuff montage, breaking Murdoch out of the institution, and the monologue from the show’s credits. They touched on all the points I wanted to see from the old show. Although I have to say I completely missed the cameos from the old cast.

The bottom line is if you liked the show you’ll like the movie. So all you children of the 80s should be lining up for this pronto!

I enjoyed the movie for the first half. I liked the chemistry between the actors and the team coming together was fun. The second half with all the nonsense about the plates and the DOD and the CIA and the kitchen sink got kind of tiresome...and how can you make an A-Team movie without a plan coming together montage set to Mike Post's theme music?...It was okay, worth a matinee.

And why the hell was Jon Hamm in this movie for 5 seconds?...That guy needs to get a new agent. He's got just about everything you'd want in a movie star and he's doing blink and you'll miss cameos?

Neither are realistic in a Michael Mann type of way, I was saying that the difference between the A team tv show and the movie was similar to the difference between First Blood and Rambo III, probably even less of that gap considering First Blood feels like what could happen if a mentally unstable badass vet were unleashed on a corrupt police force and the cartoony turn that Rambo took fighting of the Soviets single handidly (a few Mujahideen on horseback not withstanding). The original A team was pure cheese and this movie is an expected growth of that cheese due to the technolgy available and audience expectations...if they were able to have cgi tanks in the tv show they would have had 20 blow up every episode.

I figured Hamm did the role as a set up for a sequel in which he was to have a prominant role, probably a villain. More then likely wont see it now.
