Thank you...

Just for the record... Just because some of us haven't put our reservation in for a RED doesn't mean that we don't trust or support you. I hope you know that; if I had the $17.500 to spare I would definately have invested them in a RED.

Congratulations on the progress, Jim + team. You all deserve great success and recognition for this for all the hard work you've put into it.

congratulations jim! - I can't thank you enough. what you are doing means an awful lot to many different kinds of people including myself. I am still amazed that anyone would attempt such a venture in such a risk adverse and conservative area as the film industry. All the best:beer:

I had hoped and predicted that red would get 1000 reservations. This is important for those who have reserved and not just for the red team. This is no one off camera destined for the scrap heap. If red can accomplish the next major hurdle and get the first small lot of cameras out for testing it will be brilliant and trully inspiring.

No other comparable digital high end cinema camera has had such back orders (lets call them that for the time being). At 1,000 units + red is "open for business" in the true sense of the word once the production line starts rolling.

For those who seek to criticise the marketing of red done in the manner Jim has done thats fine. Just remember he has achieved all his goals and more from his point of view whilst sharing the development with you guys. AND We the believers in what team red is doing have been given assurances that Red will not let us down in producing this superb camera and in providing an after care service that matches the achievements so far.

Well done to the whole red team :dankk2:

I thought it would be the first time I wouldn't figure out a post coming from you Jim! :D

Yep, couldn´t make any sense out of that one.

For us "Old Worlder´s" you might consider using soccer metaphors.

;-))

Oh, and congratulations! Who´s having the 1000th camera is a rotten egg.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to all of the rental companies near my film shoots for ensuring their place in line. You'll understand the full extent of my gratitude when you have product in stock and to spec.

Some have compared you to others, but I think your approach stands alone in a cold world of callous business models. You refuse to stop - without compromise - until you meet your goals. You are offering your accomplishments at a price that is a fraction of what you could be asking, and most of all, you're here in the trenches to find out not what sells the most cameras at the best profit margin, but just what it really is that the user wants. I intend to not take these things for granted, and I truly hope that the RED spirit stays alive for a long time to come. I am proud to be a RED supporter, and can't wait to share in your discoveries and make new ones come alive. Thank you, Jim.

Well said, Haakon. Jim, you are not just providing a product, you are providing an inspiration quite apart from the product itself. You are living proof that personal excellence still has a place in this marketplace. Heck, anywhere.

You have challenged my sense and pursuit of excellence. Thanks, Jim.

I think going to the cinema and seeing "Photographed with RED camera systems" will provide a real sense of satisfaction for the RED team.

Jim, tried to email you on the side, but the system isn't allowing it. Do you guys have a target for when res. numbers will be released for orders placed after the 25th (last Saturday to be exact)?

It was a RED ONE and 18-85mm for us.

Thank you again for this amazing product!

Congratulations on making it past 1000! I had bit of inspiration yesterday afternoon while thinking about what my movie will be about. I couldn't have done it without first being excited by Red's inclusion of us in the process.

Notice Jim is at the top of my list of heros!

1. Jim Jannard. Making my dream camera and including us in the process.

2. Doug Trumbull. Pioneered vfx (Blade Runner; 2001: A Space Oddysee). Got my first job in the industry working on one of his projects. I'm hoping to get to use his (now empty) studio in Sheffield, MA.

3. Steve Jobs. Apple/Pixar, Final Cut Studio, Shake, etc.

4. George Lucas. Revolutionizing digital filmmaking and now concentrating on indies.

5. Mark Cuban. I'm hoping he will distribute my movie and screen it in 4k at Landmark theaters.

6. Mike Curtis @hdforindies.com. Keeping me up to date with everything I need to know in the industry. I'll hire him for consulting when I need some help.

7. Graeme Nattress. Absolutely the best man for the job. I should probably include the rest of the Red team here too (Stuart English, etc.), but I don't really know who they are....

EDIT: oops. I forgot to add Robert Rodriguez to the list. After all, in the beginning he sold himself to science for the sake of making his own movies. And now he can make a blockbuster movie in his own home studio.

Just wanted to add my voice to the list of thanks in return. Thankyou for being one of those truly inspirational people who refuse to be beaten down by naysayers and indeed are strengthened by them. In a world where mediocrity is king it's refreshing to see there are still those who are determined to advance by breaking the established rules instead of blindly following them.

Keep up the awesome work (that goes for all of you at Red!) - you are true revolutionaries in the best sense of the word.

THANKYOU!!!

Off topic but: Steve Jobs bought shake once it was already 90% feature complete... killed the faster of the two (OSX/Windows) platforms to turn a profit and then sat back and let it stagnate with almost no innovation until it finally died. If that's the legacy you want to remember him by, by all means leave shake in his list of accomplishments.

yeah, sorry about being off topic: but Shake can still do a lot for only $500, even if it is EOL'd. I guess I was referring to Apple selling such a professional piece of software at a price I can easily afford.

for your trust. It looks like we closed the book on reservations in excess of 1000. It is truly more than we ever had anticipated. We have begun to adjust our production schedules accordingly. We are working hard on a very difficult project to not let you down.

Jim
THANK YOU and CONGRATULATION

Jahlion, I think that Final Cut, Shake are not original ideas from Apple...

@all @red: you guys are devaluing all 35mm/HDCAM/cinealta cameras & VTR we have here and i still have to say: thank you!

besides the great product, your "open communication while development" is a long-needed innovation. after 17 years with sony, arri etc this communication is how we always wanted to keep us informed.

PS.
IIRC...
shake was from nothing real, startet on the pc win&linux. apple dropt the win version.
FCP was at macromedia, i think was windows originally as well... but it don´t remember the details.
motion however, is build from scratch @ apple. that was the defunct combustion team from the westcoast (kai huecking), former denim software.

Jan,

I couldn't imagine you my cinematography.com fellow (one of my favorites there and you well know why) you are the laguun here. We have more in common than I could figure. I'm with you following a similar background, POV and la nostra squadra rossa.

Cheers mate !

Jan and Emanuel, I too have enjoyed your posts here and abroad...
Also Jan my mention of the Zeiss primes in relation to Angie zoom/Kubrick was an addendum to your post for those that might wonder how Kubrick achieved those int. shots- not being argumentative.

cheers guys have good one...

Thank you Jim. for not being SONY JVC CANON PANASONIC and trolling it out one tiny upgrade at a time for $50,000

And thank you for the vision I wanted to build but did not have the time or cash to do it.
