AC160 Test Recording with my new AC160

Your comment makes my day. The old-fashion look was not intentional, unfortunately, I figure this just illustrates the camera is smarter than I am.

The recording was done in the basement of a library in a rural village (population 500). Twenty people attended (try to get that ratio in a large city). My lighting was 2 x 2 x 2 x 300 watt construction lights with "bounce laundry softeners" as glare-reducers mounted on the four grids using metal clips.

I actually suspect the sepia look was the result of the baking process that the lighting imposed on the bounce sheets. Must make sure I add a fire extinguisher to my grab bag for future outings.

I love the camera.

One thing I did notice - this was the 4th time over two years that I did a recording for this music historian - she seemed unusually animated and seemed to actually play now and then to the camera whereas previously with my old small videocam, I could have just as well not been there.

Thank you so much for your feedback.

is the noise on the back wall in the original footage or is it from youtube compression?

Not too sure, I hear the singing, the crank organ plus various "clunks" from time to time. I will check out the other 15 songs/narrations and get back to you. I will also get someone to listen to the original m2ts and compare that to what is posted on YouTube and see if they note any differences.

sorry i wasn't clear. i am referring to the video and not audio. when i play the video in 1080 i see a lot of noise or banding on the wall. I'm thinking of purchasing the ac160 so I'm doing research on the camera to see if its right for me.

I can see the exposure constantly changing slightly throughout this video. So I suspect that Auto-Iris must have been used, which I think was a big mistake. The highlights on her face and chest are definitely blown too.

The angle of the lighting in the room is simply terrible, the way that it is off to the side. I would have either set up my camcorder in line with the lighting, or used a light to augment the light in the room.

I would have shot this in manual mode, using either 1080/24p or 720/24p. I think that there is enough light here to be able to avoid using any gain. Setting DRS to 1, though, might be appropriate.

What settings were used to record this video??

Why would you have shot this at 24fps? Is this going to film? Is it a movie? What is wrong with 1080/30p?

OK...I I made add. If the sepia tone was not intentional then I apologize. I thought it was suppose to look like a video from the 1940's.

SO..................In the future, I would white and black balance on a pure white professional WB card and see if there is a difference.

Thank you very much for the helpful tips.

The auto-iris probably was on and I will not make that mistake again. It would be nice to be able to record LCD settings (not just date/time) when making a test recording.

The lighting was difficult to set up in the room and the right hand light definitely was too far away. The camera was to the right as well, about 1 foot away from the right hand light (the room was small, full of tables with people sitting at them). I might have been better of doing the recording from the back of the room but no space there either.

The recording was done at 1080/24p with no gain.

Sunny_j/LanceOregon . . . yep, I see the 'banding' - it seems to be all over the place almost like Northern Lights and probably it is, as you pointed, out due to auto-iris.

I need a light system. Very silly of me to use construction lights with Bounce laundry softener as light diffusers. They sheets slowly baked onto the metal grill as the recording progressed. Then at one stage two of the tungsten lights burned out completely.

I am pretty sure I did 1080/24p

So, my plan is read the book more, listen to my e-book on the 160, order Barry Green's book, get a new tripod, proper lights, possibly a Sekonic light meter and I already asked in another thread about follow focus as being useful/not useful. I can see the need for the latter with AF100 but perhaps not with an unchangeable big lens like the one in the AC160.

It's great to have access to pros here at DVXUSER, it probably saves weeks/months of trying to figure out stuff that is routine for you.

Getting there. . .

Here is a new 1 minute recording, done off tripod, with some lighting at the start but then shifting to no tripod/no lighting. I obviously did not have OIS on when the camera was off tripod and whereas Sony Vegas Pro has a "stabilize media" feature, things still bounced around PLUS the software did an unwanted zoom that I was not able to get rid of, so the recording was posted without any stabilization improvement.

I like the colors, they seem reasonably like the original.
