I liked the film, but I have to agree. I would've rather seen the extra disc used for better behind the scenes featurettes than for this director's cut.
As for the whole war with Skynet, yes, this film didn't have a big epic battle scene like the opening to T2. I do like how they set up a lot of the future stuff in Salvation. If another terminator film is made, hopefully it will move into the full scale man vs. machine war territory with large forces on each side. Although, I suppose that is probably going to be saved for the final battle where Connor and his forces will eventually defeat Skynet and get inside to the time displacement chamber.
The war at the beginning of T2, was that led by Kyle Reese or John Connor? I cant remember.
I'm defending this film now, but I have a feeling when I look back in 10 years, it will be on par with the Phantom Menace.rogar-Mad(DBG):
I pondered the "first Reese" question for years...until I realized with time travel stories (on the page or the screen) you gotta lay off the non-blatant paradoxes, and enjoy the ride.
Hell, the paradoxal trump card in Back to the Future (and Terminator, for that matter) is that the poo pooing earth wasn't even in the same orbital placement in 1955! That means that most likely:
-the Delorean would be floating away into the Milky Way darkness
-the Delorean would end up "inside" the earth (elliptical)
-the Delorean would end up "too high" and plummet the mile or so to earth
Once you play that card, most other paradoxes seem trivial...
I doubt they'll get made anytime soon. Last I heard the franchise was still for sale? 2013 if we're lucky. (or unlucky depending on your opinions of T4)
Although I hear Bryce Dallas Howard had a sex change after the movie and now looks like this:I hope that they keep Bryce Dallas Howard, the kid who played Kyle Reese, and Christian Bale. I'd like to see some congruity in the sequels.
