telephoto lens, question?

your correct!!!!! :-)

No, it doesn't make it 20x. It adds an extra 2x reach to your footage, reducing the wide end of your lense. The DVX at the wide end is around 33mm (in 35mm equivalent) and a 2x adapter would make that 66mm instead.

And another thing, that lense is a piece of crap and that company is a well known scam outfit. Any time you see a piece of equipment advertised as "Professional" without giving a brand name, it's crap. Look for names like Century Optics when you purchase these adapter lenses. The $650 price tag is ridiculous. That particular lense will cause serious vignetting at the side of your image, lowers your resolution by forcing you to zoom in, eliminating any advantage it might offer in the first place.

Jade's right, it wouldn't make your lens a 20x, it'd make it a 10x (but with a different focal range; instead of 4.5mm-45mm it'd now be 9mm-90mm). And, again, Jade is correct in that that particular lens won't actually work worth spittle on a DVX. Jarred Land bought one to try it and found it completely useless, and threw it in the trash. The only teleconverters we've found that work with the DVX are the Century lenses, although I suspect that 16x9inc either has or will produce one that works with the DVX too.

that lens is probably worth about $20. the website is probably the biggest bait n switch scam ever.

Please don't buy any tele adapters but the Century models. I know they are pricey, but these Merkur and other Chinese and no-name models are literally useless. Look for used Century tele extenders on Ebay.

Thanks for the info, and heads up. There are soo many scam sites out there, I unfortunately a year ago bought my dvx from a scam site. I only shop on the big sites now(amazon, adorama, and bandh).

So a 2x telephoto lens will pretty much give the lens +2x reach? So it will turn a 10x into a 12x?(by tightening the picture a little)
Wow, that is so useless... I think I'll just save my money up for the canon a1 with 20x lens.

Technically, no. 10x or 12x is a zoom ratio that depends on how wide your lense is to begin with. Take the Canon XL2 for example. Its 20x zoom isn't the same as the A1's 20x zoom because the XL2 at full wide is narrower compared to the A1 (4.5 mm vs. 5.4mm). No matter what adapter you slap on the DVX it will still have 10x zoom.

Noooo. Read Barry's reply again.
To repeat him: You will get 2x reach at the tele end and at the wide end. It will still be 10X but 2 times your normal czoom coverage .

I had gotten one of these type of lenses for my old sony camcorder. Horrible picture! Fuzzy, and didnt double my zoom ratio. Either move the camera, or get a camera with more zoom on the lense. Do not buy one of these!
