Technicolor teams up with Canon for DSLR's

Downloaded the new Technicolor Cinestyle preset for the 5D Mark II today and tested it out on the field. I compared it to the Neutral Preset and the Super Flat (0, -4, -2, 0) Preset.

I love the preset. I get details in shadow areas that not even the Super Flat setting can achieve. Safe to say, it will be the new preset I will be shooting all my projects from now on.

I've made the video downloadable in full 1080p for those of you who want to see it in full res

I'm really confused with the .lut s curve file. Is this necessary to use in conjunction with color grading your footage, or is this .lut file just a quick solution for people who don't want to spend time grading? Will the .lut file increase the dynamic range even further? Because it looks like it does just the opposite.

Just loaded the profile into my 600d, going to hit some tests soon...., anyone shot some skin tone tests? I've been using the Pancake profile alot rather than cine marvels just because I struggle with how the skin tones are rendered. Will be nice to see what techincolor can do with skin, FYI everyone ColorFinesse in CS4/CS5 loads the Techincolour LUT just fine.

Thanks for all that work. Nice images.
It is helpful to see the ungraded versions of each of these styles.
However, I am having some difficulty though with intrepreting what I am seeing when things are taken one step further. What I see in the graded version of the cinestyle is a lot of color crossovers. In other words, very cyan looking shadows and magenta highlights. Correct for one and you have got too much of the other. Now this may be intentional as your stylistic choice, but it unfortunately reminds me of the shortcomings of super flat. I think it would be more helpful to also see how you would grade the other versions, even if unfortunately that actually represents a lot more work!

I worked with the CInestyle profile a bit this weekend, and it's great! Finally a LOG curve for the Canon's. Unfortunately the meager camera codec doesn't have a chance in hell of making a useful image here. It would be great if the codec was 10bit or something, then you could actually grade it without insane breakage and noise penalties....

This will be nice if we ever get raw video....
