Hi,
I've been using this combo for a month now and i notice that the noise floor is pretty high. I've got an Average RMS Amplitude of 55 in Adobe Audition. As what i've seen on the internet, this combo should provide a much better noise floor at around 65 Average RMS. I'm not sure if it's the setting that i've got wrong or is there some problem with my devices.
I usually set to:
Mono
Gain: Mid-High
Limiter: Mono
Low cut: 40hz
Thank you very much.

I'm not sure where you've seen citations about this particular mic/recorder combo working well. The NTG-2 is well-known to have a lower output level than other inexpensive shotguns, and when when paired with a weaker pre-amp (one that does not offer quite as much clean gain) this results in a higher noise floor when the gain is brought up to nominal recording levels.

This applies to almost all shotgun mics that use an internal battery/phantom power scheme. In addition to the NTG-2 the Audio Technica AT897 is also notorious for low output levels.

Ditch the NTG-2, get some battery packs for the DR-60d to use external phantom power for the mics and check out the NTG-1, NTG-3 or AT875.

Generally, the NTG-2 (and NTG-1) is not a very impressive mic for the price. It's quite poor. The AT875r is both cheaper and much, much better, although it does need phantom power.

I second here, I own the NTG2 and the AT875r. Get the Audio-Technica, beats the Røde hands down!

The Rode NTG1 and NTG2 are the same electronics, the NTG2 just has a battery holder. And yes with a lower output and cheap preamps they hiss like a serpent.....
The NTG3 is a whole different ball game.....

You may want to check out the Sennheiser ME66 or ME64 out as well :) They have very hot outputs and thus require less gain than the NTG-2 and should thus produce much less or no noise with your recorder :) It even has quite a bit more output than the AT897 and thus probably also more output than the AT875r. Of course there is also a price difference to consider.
