Tariffs?

A lot of cameras on that list can probably be purchased used, so that’s one way to avoid extra tariff costs.

There’s so much great used gear that you really have to have a specific need to buy new, in my opinion.

This thread is going to be on a VERY short leash, so govern yourselves accordingly.

Discuss prices. Do NOT discuss tariff policy, for good or for ill.

Traditional cameras continue to be in a tough position because who is really going to be affected by this?

I think only new buyers who absolutely need and must have something.

Many people with gear will continue using what they have, maybe even breathe a sign of relief and take the foot off the GAS syndrome a little.

I don't know if most electronics affected by any of this will matter for most people (vs. food, alcohol, fuel, cars, etc), but if there was one, it might be iPhones.

I'm STILL looking for some new audio monitors. Low-end I'm considering Kali IN-5, mid Neumann KH 80, and higher-mid Neuman KH 120mkII and perhaps Barefoot Sound footprint03. Barefoot recently raised prices and the others are backordered at the usual places.

My hunch is people bought equipment (just as reportedly car sales are spiking) ahead of the tariffs. I snoozed, I loozed.

OTOH, I wonder how long these tariffs will last. But bottom line: I'm delaying some purchases and as Dustin says, considering used (which I often do anyway).

Hmmm...supply and demand...If I was a betting man, I would expect used prices to quickly follow suit for many things... certainly not for 8 year old cameras / tech but used prices on the newer items will likely increase by percentage points as well...

If those used prices would increase, it would also be a great time for many who will stay put at their used asking just to move it faster and move on.

Too much of hassle to raise it a few hundred on the used market just because the camera is now a few hundred more when you got endless amount of models competing with each other in that same money window.

But I only say this now in the current environment; even just 5 years ago in 2020, the R5 and the a7SIII were the cameras to have but now there are more very good models all around to choose from.

I was using the JBP 308PmkII, but recently went to surround and got all 305PmkII. Really, really nice monitors, both of them. Those 8” mons are just sitting in the corner at the moment…

I've been in a lot of rooms with JBL 305 and 306 monitors (and I regularly recommend them). Ya, they're good.

Just this afternoon I bought a pair of open-box Neumann KH 120 II monitors from Sweetwater. Got a decent price, two-year warranty, etc. Didn't get the MA-1 mic and room-calibration system, but I think I'll be OK for now. I don't yet have buyer's remorse... ;-)

Alex and everyone, I hope to see you at NAB.
