Tape

I have been hired to shoot a long form documentary with my HVX. I normally shoot on P2, but because of the length I will be shooting on tape. What is the best bang for your buck on tapes. I will eventually want to print on 35mm and need a good enough quality for festivals, distribution etc. Thanks for your help!

Do you really want to go from DV25 to 35mm? I would look at other options such as direct-to-disk recording.

I would follow THoff's advice. I use the Firestore without any problems for all of my long form productions. This allows you to stay in the world of HD and still get long shoot times.

so the firestore gives about 4 hours at 720p/24N, and takes up about 100GB...How do you store all the footage, just many huge drives?

jackfate,
The Firestore will give you a little over three hours of 720/24pn HD video. And, yes I typically take several eSata drives with me on location that I feed from my MacBookPro. It's proven to be a great workflow for me on my documentary shoots. When I have to be more mobile I discard the Firestore and go back to using my 3 8gb P2 cards.

I hope this information helps.
Jim
