Hi all,

i am about to get a zoom lens for my 60d.

Looking at Sigma 18-50 2.8 or Tamron 17-50 2.8.

I have found a couple

i saw a sigma 18-50mm 2.8 EX Nikon Fit. I know you can get a Canon Ef Sigma, but more expensive could i add an adapter onto this and it would work?

What is peoples opinion on the Tamron?

Thanks

Ollie

With the Nikon lens & adaptor you won't have autofocus, and you'll need to get the right adaptor which allows you to adjust the aperture otherwise you won't have any control over that either. Even with the right adaptor there will be no communication with the lens to tell the body what f-stop you are at.

Just get the Canon version, it will make life so much easier and you'll actually be able to use it for stills as well. The cost of an adaptor might balance out the cost anyway to why bother? It's not like it's unique vintage glass... there is a 100% funtioning version in the native mount so get that one.

I've not used the Sigma but the Tamron non-VC is awesome. Everyone should have one for their APS-C camera.

as the others, I've found the tamron non-VC to be an awesome lens; the VC version is really soft, so I wouldn't consider it as an option, but there's some people happily using it for video

adapting lenses from different mounts (with longer focal flange distance, as in nikon->canon) is a no brainer... as long as you don't need autofocus and the lens has an iris ring; if you want to control an adapted lens from the camera body, you'll need a smart adaptor, that will cost $100 or more, and will probably not work as well as you expected (lots of glitches seem to be the norm)

The one i have found is Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical IF SP AF Which is a Canon fit

or Sigma 18-50mm f 2.8 Ex Dc Lens canon fit

Which do people think is better? they seem both the same and both good :)

thanks

I bought a Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 off ebay along with an film slr. But I get an error message. On searching the net I found that I can return it to Sigma for re-flashing the firmware so it works on my T2i. But don't tell anyone as want more bargains off ebay.

Hi, I have been looking at a Tamaron for video and wonder what the differens betwen the "Tamron AF 17-50/2,8 Di II XR VC" and the "Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical IF SP AF"
Isnt it better with the VC version for video? or does it get softer?
