C100: Tamron lens compatibility

I just picked up a c100 and my Tamron 17-50 2.8 Non-VC works fine but my Tamron 18-200 doesn't. The aperture control doesn't work but for some strange reason the focal length is being read by the camera, so there is obviously some communication there. When I put on the lens I can hear the aperture click but no control. A while back the 17-50 didn't work on my buddy's c100 but the 18-200 did :/

Any ideas/thoughts/experiences?

Thanks

If anyone is interested I found a workaround for this problem. If I zoom the lens even a little bit (towards long end) the aperture engages and can be controlled by the camera. Also works if I mount the lens partially zoomed out. Weird...

So the tamron 70-200 f2.8 vc works with the c100mkii or c100? I'd pick it up since the price of canon is a little expensive and iv heard conflicting rumours about the tamron. Just need to confirm it works with DPAF and full control

Likewise, the Tamron 15-30 Di VC USD auto-focus function is not compatible with the C100 MKII. Shame since it is a very nice lens.

I do not know how tamron behave , any way I can share my experience with sigma 18-35 f1.8 . Sigma with my mk2 works perfect ,when it comes to mk1 ,aperture does not work when autofocus is on . I have to block AF and when I can change smoothly aperture .

^I can't think of anything Canon engineers did that would have stomped on the ability to communicate with 3rd party lenses on the MKII. With that said, I doubt it. Probably both iterations have issues with Tamrons attached.

Well, that's a shame. Being how essential many folks seem to think the AF is for certain kinds of shooting, I would want to get lenses that work with it.

This is one of the gambles you take with 3rd party equipment. I read on some forums that the Tamron 24-70 works fine a 300. This is one reason why I shop at B&M outfits locally. I would have easily purchased the 15-30 online and received it just in time for a shoot only to find the lens completely doesn't work on a 100.

Even though some of the third party lenses for the EOS line are good, personally, I avoid all of them for compatibility reasons like this and for resale. Resale on non Canon lenses it terrible while Canon lenses are pretty much money in the bank. Doesn't matter on cheap lenses but once you get out to the over $1k price range, Canon lenses are definitely the way to go, the extra money is usually well spent.

Speaking of Tamron lens compatibilty, I posted a thread about the following issue a while back but got no response. Does this sound like a general Tamron incompatibility with the C100, or just a faulty lens?:

I've been using the Tamron 24-70 with my C100 for many months now, almost entirely in manual mode with my cameraman pulling focus for me as needed. Last night we decided to let the autofocus do the job on a starkly lit close-to-wide dolly shot. With the f-stop set to 4, we started seeing an issue where the autofocus mechanism would go a little crazy and then the lens would suddenly drop a stop. Happened when the camera was locked or moving, with VC on or off.

Can anyone provide an update on the compatibility of the G2 lenses (24-70, 70-200) on the C100 Mk II, are autofocus and aperture working completely, or are people having issues?

The 24-70mm G2's AF/aperture/IS works on a few Canon DSLRs, but I know it's not the answer you're looking for.

If you don't receive any confirmation here then I would YouTube it...although this video with the c200 doesn't make it look like it's too promising:

The autofocus on my Tamron 24-70 2.8 has always been a little sketchy with my C100. First discovered the issue years ago when we decided to let autofocus take care of an extreme CU to MS rack. The AF started hunting and going crazy. I confirmed the issue on a second C100 and a second Tamron 24-70 one time when one of my DPs brought his on set. It's just a compatibilty/engineering issue.
