C100: Tamron 70-300 issues/alternatives?

Hiya guys, apologies if this had already been spoken about.

I thought i'd blaze a trail for a new video long lens unfortunately, I think I have come a cropper. I bought the Tamron 70-300 from DigitalRev. Great service. Arrived in 48 hours. Cheaper than Amazon by £40. All reviews said that it was a great piece of glass for the money and I thought it would make a great little video sniping lens.

It is certainly built well and the optics are great. However the VC/IS has a big flaw for video. It jumps when you move. When settling on a shot it is rock solid and I'd say it's better (more solid) than any of my Canon lenses with IS but when you make a move the screen 'jumps' and then catches up. This makes it unusable for me unless I am doing static shot and I think we all need the flexibility to pan etc.

I knew about this 'jump' from some of the photography reviews that I'd read but figured that it wouldn't be an issue when filming as the forums and reviews spoke about "when the VC engages". I thought as the VC is continuously engaged it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately it is.

I'm not annoyed or pissed off just a bit sad that this seemingly awesome lens can't be used in the way I want.

This thread is really just to let people know of the flaws with this lens' VC. I'm not sure if all Tamron's suffer from this.

I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of buying it for video.

I'm sending it back and would appreciate others advice on choices for this focal length (it must go to 300).

Any decent alternative with IS? I was planning on buying that Tamron, but I guess I won't now. I only use a long lens at occasional events when I'm stuck at the back of a big conference room, and have been using a 55-250, but wouldn't mind an extra bit of range - not enough to buy Canon's L 70-300 though. Anyone tried Sigma's?
