now that the dvx has this ease into 24p and no longer is interlace the economical/logical way to go.

do you think that casting calls would record these auditions in 24p??

kind of random.... basically do you think it would be better to shoot talent auditions with 24p or interlace??

thanks

For the last project we cast for we shot mostly on 24p during the casting with a couple of film lights set up. It gave us a chance to see how people might look when you actually film them. some of the people that looked good in person or in their headshots looked bad on tape. It was well worth the trouble. Try and use a couple of soft lights of rig up a couple of Chinese lanterns. An added bonus was that we looked very professional. The starbucks coffees and oj sure helped as well. :)

Good luck,

I would say it doesnt even matter. Even having my 100B, auditions were taped with a compact consumer DV cam. I wouldnt waste the 100B's video head time on hours of auditions and you really dont know what someone will look like on camera until they are lit for that scene. Even still, 24p isnt going to change their onscreen appearance.

The main point of videotaping auditons is to have a audio/visual reference of the readings - facial expressions, voice inflection, ability to take direction - and any video you can playback and watch to help make the decision is all you need.

If you're putting the auditions into special features and want that in 24p for stylistic reasons, that's one thing - and I thought about that - and I personally wanted those to look video. Could have done it 100B 24p without the pulldown, but not without the extra time on my precious A-camera.

Just my position.
