taking that plunge

Hey guys. I have been waiting on the 20mm lens for a while, now I see it as low as $362. I am shooting a huge scene in an elevator, which is a small space as we know. Would this lens be good in that situation? Right now I own Canon's: 24mm, 28mm, 50mm, 135mm, 200mm.. Any suggestions before I pull the trigger on my AMEX card!? Thanks..

Do you have the kit lens? It's much wider than the 20mm lens and would give you wider-angle shots. As long as you have enough light for it, of course.

If you have access to the elevator, you can run some tests to see if the 20mm would be adequate; just zoom your kit lens to 20mm.

We did a shot in an elevator several years ago with four actors and the camera man. It sure would have been easier to do with a DSLR and fast lens. Good luck with that.

20mm on the GH1 might be too long for a two shot in an elevator...could probably get your one shots with it...do you have the kit lens? Barry is right 14mm will probably serve you much better. Or you could get the 7-14mm and resell it. Still would need to light for f/4 though.

I agree that 20mm would be long in an elevator for medium shots or wide. Try testing your 24mm in elevator, rotate LCD to front and back the camera up to wall. See how much you can get in. I don't know how to calculate the angle of degrees from 24mm to 20mm. Someone else can help.

Or you can put a Canon WD-55 0.7x Wide Converter on the 20mm lens and get 14mm out of it at f1.7. Here is a video test I shot with it to check sharpness and light loss. No light is lost so you don't lose anything thing there and it's plenty sharp edge to edge.

Thanks guys, I do have the kit lens, and I will save myself some $! I do have access to the 'elevator' as its a set in a basement, lol...
