Basic question but unable to find thus far . . .

when you're shooting video with the T3i can you connect to a powerbook to monitor the video?

Also, can you record video direct to a laptop?

Thanks

via firewire/usb directly somehow- no. You could purchase a device that would do that though- check with AJA, Atomos, Blackmagic, Sound Devices, etc. Far more useful would be a small HDMI monitor- you can get these from Marshall, IKAN, etc.

Yea, wired or wireless monitoring directly on a external monitor or tv is actually pretty easy and common. Unfortunately, since DSLR's don't output a firewire stream like many 'normal' video camcorders do, you'd have to buy some pretty expensive hardwire to essentially capture and convert your hdmi signal into a firewire stream. Even then, it's a pretty bulky and cumbersome workflow/setup. If at all possible, I would avoid recording DSLR footage to anything besides it's intended cards. But yea, output to a standard monitow is no big deal. Getting that same signal stream to a computer--big pain in the neck!
