T3i kills the t2i and 60d sales?

So the t3i has manual audio (kills t2i.... Even though ml has other great features) and swivel screen. (kills 60d)

If you're looking at video only, the t3i just made the t2i and 60d pretty useless.

it looks like a t2i plus swivel screen and a more confortable grip

given that it has to be cheaper than the 60D, it looks like an amazingly good deal... specially if Magic Lantern can be ported to it

Questions

1) does it have a headphone jack?
2) does it have better preamps?
3) does it have intermediate ISO's
4) what else have they improved on from the T2i?

As for the manual audio - I don't care anymore. There are threads on DVXuser that have come to the conclusion that the preamps suck on the canon DSLRs and it is just better to use a separate recorder for many reasons. I used to be excited about the manual audio on the 60d (almost bought one) then after all the research, was glad I didn't.

All in all - still happy with my 7d.

Glad I sold my 550D and got the 60D. I thought I lost money last month, but this month will drop more competing with store clearance deals.
Hard to tell from the photos, but if the body case is the same as the 550D then the 60D is way better construction and feel.
Also the controls on the 60D are completely different than the 550D and I can see in the back promo photo the control dial is not a wheel, but a push button control as on the 550D. This means you may have to still hold down the rear button with your thumb and control the aperture with your index finger at the same time. This was the biggest upgrade for me on the 60D over the 550D. I never could get used to that flaw even after 10 months shooting with it.
If you don't hold it firmly then your shutter speed changes. Image poison if you don't catch it and start shooting at a 40th or 60th sec. by accident.
We have yet to see what's really different than audio control and a swivel screen. Canon is smart releasing image over content. The 5D mk3 should be the next cornerstone. Let's hope anyway.

@draven4: no, I guess no, no, and not much

it's just a 550D with a swivel screen and better grip, that's it

it wasn't realistic to expect the next generation of video DSLRs to lift off with the launch of the $750 model... chances are, as rockmore said, it will be the 5Dmk3 that will set the market in motion again (or maybe the 7Dmk2)

edit: a new feature is the Movie Digital Zoom:
"Movie Digital Zoom function, which crops the centre of the sensor from 3x to 10x while still maintaining Full HD quality – great for capturing wildlife on a safari holiday"
you lose your shallow DoF, but you gain quite a lot of scope (even if only 3x is useful, as I'd expect 10x to be very, very blurry: the sensor doesn't offer that much resolution to begin with)

and the new grip seems to be a nice improvement; dpreview says:
"Personally I found it to be a huge improvement, and the first 'Rebel' class camera that I've been happy to carry around one-handed for an extended session of shooting since the original 300D."

edit2: there are some puzzling issues on the dpreview samples: this ISO5000 shot seems to have too little noise!! (plus: the camera doesn't have ISO 5000!!)

for those who havent gotten in to the hdslr bandwagon, this seems a good entry point :) for those with 7d, 5d, 550d would prbably be happy where they are. no significant improvement on the camera anyway.

Looks like they forgot to put the push button lock on the scroll wheel which the 60d has, you have no idea how many times that saved me while recording.

The t2i and now t3i do not look, so it's very easy to move the wheel by mistake. Very strange that Canon did not continue to have this feature like the 60d has.

Regardless this is good news, can't wait for the new 7D now

Wonderful news. It should bring the price of a 550D down a wee bit. I love the pointless debates that go on regarding 7D v 60D, never a mention of the most versatile (re video shooting) of Canons APS-C cameras, THE 550D, with Magic Lantern. I own a 7D and a 550D and have regular use of a 60D, the most useable of the 3, is IMO most definately the 550D with ML. This combo has more video shooting features than my Sony EX1. Just a shame about the downsampling, aliasing and moire issues that all the Canon DSLRs suffer from. Still very handy cams to have in the kit bag though.

Thinking out loud here, but the digital zoom, assuming it uses a smaller central area, would improve the moire as the zoom increases.

So for example a 10mm lens zoomed 5x to give a 50mm lens would have very little, if any, moire and better jello maybe.

But you would also have the DOF of a 10mm lens :P
Sorta defeats the purpose...

Problem is myself and many others will NEVER install a hack system on a camera. Same thing with people using the hacked Gh1, I would never place an unreliable firmware on the tools I use for a living. Simply will never do it... So the t2i with whatever hack that people use with it is simply not an option for me as well as many others.

I've never had ML be unreliable and I've shot multiple things on my hacked t2i. Where are you getting the reliability issue from?

So the Canon video DSLR list now comes to:

T3
T1i
T2i
T3i
60D
7D
5D MKII

And hardly of them have a single thing different that couldn't have been done with a simple installable upgrade. If we can hack it, Canon sure as hell can upgrade it. Hands down, the T1i, T2i, and T3 (not even out yet) are entirely irrelevant cameras in the face of the 60D, which almost eclipses the 7D and even the MKII depending on the shooter's preference. Canon really have lost their minds with this camera series, the only thing that sounds interesting is the new 1080P crop mode, which could be useful....other than that, I believe the 60D will for a very long time be the only camera anyone should consider, if the T3i doesn't have the dedicated ISO's or White Balances simply because Canon decided they needed to make worse than the 60D somehow. I mean really, why can't Canon just make a "perfect" camera? Instead, they make one for every $100 step that someone has in their budget, with all of them having some tiny feature that another doesn't, with the exception of the T2i, T3, and T1i, which should all three be awarded 'Fail of the Year' awards for how lame of cameras they truly are. And now this means I can't even sell my T2i for more than $300 to invest in a 60D, this camera really is not worth anything anymore! Unless I sell it to someone who really wants to hack it.

The only reason I don't want to dive into the 60D is because I honestly like the mode dial being on the right side (how in the world do you turn it being on the left side? With it being on the right, it's very easy.) and the T3i has the same set-up as the T2i, which I enjoy. But if the T3i doesn't have the dedicated ISO's or White Balances, or is lacking anything else, I won't go near it. And in general, I want a 60D so darn bad, it is all-around the true camera that is worth the $1,000+ I paid for a worth-less-than-$500 T2i. I pretty much hate shooting with the thing because it was such a complete rip-off, for a $1,000, a camera should have everything the 60D does - the 60D is one of the few cameras out there that's really entirely worth it's price.
