T3i EOS Utility and HDMI monitor Simultaneously?

Can I control my camera via usb with the EOS utility software and also have an HDMI feed to a monitor? Or is it one or the other? (I'm aware of the HDMI switch to SD during recording)

Anything in the hdmi port robs the viewfinder, so it's a safe bet it will rob the usb feed as well. Do you have an hdmi cable?
 
I don't. I was probably going to get one soon. Just wondering if its possible to do it his way. I like controlling the camera with a computer but it lags quite a bit.
