Hi, i'm ready to order a T3i soon mainly for video but i just want to make sure i get anough batteries, if anyone can help me with this i'd really appreciate it:

how long does the stock battery last while using the camera exclusively for full hd video recording?

Also, any experiences with after market batteries and how long they last while also recording video?

Plus any recommendations for cheap aftermarket batteries (if they're good of course) would be great.

Another quesiton for anyone who can help me, does anyone know if the battery tray on the T3i can be opened with the camera still attached to a Manfrotto QR plate like this one:

Thanks for any help

I have two of the stock batteries and was able to shoot for about 3 1/2 hours with about half the second battery left. LiveView was on the whole time and with ML, a 1.2x bitrate and global draw on, I ended up with around 15 gigs of video and audio. It's all short 8 - 15 second clips so I don't know the actual record time, but it gives you an idea.

Cheers,
Pete

on my t2i, I have the original battery, plus two opteka ones, and they're just as good, for a fraction of the price:

as I explain in that link, the main thing with batteries is that, no matter how good they are, they'll die if you use a bad quality charger, so it is quite important that you can charge them in the original charger; I think that's the case for all T2i batteries, but it certainly is not for 5D batteries
