T2i with the HMC150

I was looking into getting the Canon T2i as a picture camera but I also like the video feature. I was wondering if it would work if I used the T2i for dual angles and for my DOF shots instead of an adapter? Its not written in stone just a thought as of now.

That's exactly the setup I have. I shot a short for a 24 hour film competition like this. Never got to grade the footage, but they all integrate well.

Also if you're considering the T2i look at Canon's 60d, too. It was just released and is slightly better. I know someone who was about to buy a T2i but is probably getting the 60d instead. It's a few hundred dollars more and makes a lot of improvements.

I don't have the money for the 60d. I rather get a used T2i. If I had the money by all means though!

We have a mixture of HMCs and Canon DSLRs. We don't have the T2i but we do have the 7D and 5D2. You may find that the footage from the T2i is sharper than the HMC (depending on the lenses you use) and that the color (specifically the saturation) is different enough that you need to color grade in post or at least set the color in the camera to be neutral and color correct form there.

I have the HMC, T2i and 7d. They can be close, but you will mostly need to grade to get them to match well. I will try to post some images later.

Also, depending on what you are shooting, you might want to watch the shallow dof of the Canon.

Might want to also consider getting a pre-June 2010 Panasonic GH1 and hacking it, the video quality is outstanding. I'm not sure how well it matches the HMC150, I'm sure others have experience however.

Only thing I'm not sure is how the GH1 compares to the T2i for stills photography, considering that is your main reason for getting one.

A good friend has a 550d/t2i. with an old pentax 55mm lens it smokes my hmc 150 for picture quality.

In some situations, the GH1 may have a lot of banding when shooting in low light. And the codec is weaker than the HMC. It doesn't shot in PH mode. (only the GH2). The HMC is much better in these conditions.

I shot a show with both and could notice the banding of the GH1 while the HMC stayed very clean.

The T2i will have that sharp Canon DSLR look. It's not better, but different. As long as you grade them to look similar no one will notice. Just get the color and contrast matching. See if anyone in your area has one to do a test shoot with and try to match the footage.
I have both but have never tried to mix them.
