T2i vs 60D for weddings?

Anyone have any experience with both or either of these camera for a wedding shoot? At the moment I'm considering investing in two of them, either 2 x 60d or 2 x T2i.

I like the bigger tougher feel of the 60D in the hand and the flip out LCD is bound to be infinitely more helpful. As would the dedicated buttons for changing ISO, WB, etc. I can also imagine that the slightly bigger size lends itself to being seen as more pro by the clients.

However the T2i has magic lantern and the ability to auto resume a record which would be great for shooting a long ceremony, even if there are hiccups in the video when it starts and stops. It's also slightly cheaper ($400 combined savings when buying both cameras) and money is tight.

Just wondering if maybe there are aspects to these I missed or didn't consider.

Is the lack of bigger heavy duty size, dedicated buttons and flipout LCD screen worth the extra cost and lack of magic lantern for fast paced wedding work?

Since you need two cameras, why dont you buy both?
T2i/ML on a tripod for the wides and 60d for the closeups/artistic shots could make a great combination for a wedding...
Of course I would advise you not to use that combination only by yourself...I would never cover a wedding with DSLRs alone...
As for the price difference...60d does worth it in my opinion.

Why not consider the T3i? Flip out LCD, lower price than 60D.

Three reasons.
1. I don't have a release date for the T3i. We were planning on buying tonight/tomorrow so we can start learning the cameras. My girlfriend who is going to shoot these weddings with me just bought a Nikon D3100 from best buy with her tax money. A couple days ago she lost her job, which is how this whole shooting weddings idea started. So she has to return her camera within a couples days (within return period) to get a Canon instead for the better video. If we go with two 60D's I'll probably just buy them from BestBuy since they are the same price as on Amazon. Otherwise if we go with the T2i I'll buy from Amazon(see #2).

2. Amazon has the T2i packaged with the 18-135 IS for $950. Same lens that comes with the 60D. I don't know if they'll have the same package for the same price with the T3i. Probably not. We don't have any good glass yet so I want to start with at least some range. At the very least the 18-135 is bigger, will look more professional and give us more range on the long end which I assue would be good for a wedding. Once we make some coing we can buy some decent L glass.

3. There is no magic bullet yet for the T3i. So while it has the flip out LCD, it loses the better build of the 60D and the magic bullet of the T2i.

It's myself and my girlfriend that will be shooting. All we'll have are DSLR's. I do have a GH1 that can record 2 hour+ clips, but I really don't want to mix GH1 and Canon footage. Plus if I get the Canons I'd like to sell the GH1 to recoup some cost.

I own a 60D and have used both in wedding shoots. I wouldn't buy one of each, because you wouldn't be able to swap batteries between the two, and you'd have to carry two different chargers. Much easier to keep everything uniform in your kit. I would get the 60D for the flip screen alone. Also, my experience shows that the 60D lasts longer on its charge, which is important for weddings. And the option for intermediate ISOs and manual Kelvin temps are helpful as well. If you can afford it, go for the 60Ds and you won't regret it.

On a side note, do you use only DSLR's for your wedding shoots? How do you deal with long ceremonies?

Yes, we only use DSLRs most of the time. Basically, you have to coordinate well with your other shooters. Make sure that whenever you cut your shot due to time limit, your other shooter is still rolling. We tend to use hand signals to make sure the other guy is rolling and we get the okay to stop and start recording again. It's usually not that much of a problem.

I have shot weddings with just one dslr at times......Although I hate it and find it very unproffessional, if the company i work for chooses to sell a one camera package then so be it. I have not had a huge problem with that other than 5 seconds missing from the ceremony every 12 minutes or so (but you can just cut when nothing is happening like they are walking to sit down or something) obviously having two shooters is MUCH better as you can get much more coverage of the entire day but one camera IS possible, and only DSLR, if you know what you are doing, is also possible for the most part. When I do weddings on my own at the very minimum I run 2 DSLRs for the ceremony so I can cut it together without there being anything missing.

I'd say the 60D is better. Manual audio, flip out screen & more options. But the GH2 might be your best bet. Better image quality and less moire.

I would go with the 60D if those are your only two options. Obviously a 7D or 5D would be a better choice, but work with what you got.

I would also suggest getting some sort of EVF so you can see the screen better in daylight situations. It's hard enough to pull focus on an EOS seeing the screen perfectly, let alone with issues in the sun.

I hate the GH1 I have, I'm certainly not going to buy a GH2. I don't care what people says about moire and aliasing. That isn't the only thing that makes or breaks a camera. The Canon's are bigger and fit better in the hand and look more professional. They also have a wider array of autofocus lenses for still video/photo use. Not to mention higher resolution LCD screens. I can't focus worth a damn on this GH1 LCD screen. Plus I love the cinematic look the Canon cameras produce.

Hey that's fine with me. I was sold on the 60D until I started comparing the two. The availability of more lenses is the only thing that the Canon wind on. But I shoot professionally, so I don't use auto. So for me all the canon lenses are still available with a simple adapter. But the image quality is what sold me. Canon's are missing something IMO. I guess I'm spoiled by my EX1.

Here are some image comparisons: http://www.eoshd.com/content/459-First-look-Panasonic-GH2-versus-Canon-60D

Anyway, if Canon is your brand regardless of how good a GH2 is, I would still say the 60D over the T2i for obvious reasons.

People never stop with the Gh2 vs Canon........

For any video ANYONE can pull up of the Gh2 I can find one better shot with a Canon...... There is more than an image than resolution......

The only advantage the 60d has is the articulating screen. With magic lantern the t2i is awesome. If you are getting 2 then get one of each. What ever you do, unless you are getting paid to take photos, don't waste your money on a 7d or 5d. Anyone that tells you they are worth the money for video is trying to justify the money they spent.

OK I'll justify the money I spent, there's no comparison between the 5dMkII and the T2i, I shoot most of my video (about half a terabyte a week) on the 7D just because its less expensive and the thing is a tank, it really takes the abuse. Unfortunately shooting that much the 7D does overheat, generally it doesn't happen well into the second or beginning of the third battery. Occasionally it happened about ten or so minutes into the first battery - I just ignore it and cycle the power at the first opportunity and its fine.

I also wouldn't recommend buying a 7D, I love mine but it overheats, there's just no getting around it, no excuses. Wait, what am I saying, are you in the market for a good used 7D, only shoots church services on Sunday? I saw T2i's on sale at B&H for $650 (body only) if they get much cheaper I might buy a couple. I'm still trying to get the truth about ML on the T21, there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews about how well it works. I'm sure that if its having problem now its only a matter of time before they're sorted out. I've never used a 60D so I can't say anything about that.

Your going to shoot weddings? With your GIRLFRIEND? Is there a pool on how long before you get married?

Have fun and good luck with your new adventure

Sorry, I forgot to justify spending the money, My 7D has paid for itself 10 times over in fact I have a year long project because of the 7D.

If you think your 7D overheats, just wait until you buy the T2i... :(
