We have a 5D M2 , 7D and HMC40. I want to get a third camera for our wedding videographers but am still wondering if there are any issues with the T2i from overheating. I might just fork out a couple hundred more for a T3i if that is better. Thanks in advance to your answers.
My T2i hardly ever overheats as long as I use a battery grip, which I mostly always use. Always keep fresh batteries and cards with it when shooting and you shouldn't have any problems. Personally, I don't think the T3i is worth it at all over the T2i. If you're in it for the articulating LCD, go with the 60D.
The 7D has more overheating issues than the T2i. If your shooting style doesn't cause the 7D to overheat then you likely won't have any issues with the T2i.
Thanks for the Reply guys. Is the 60D pretty much a T2i but with an articulation screen? Will likely just look for a used one. Thanks again for the input.
You could say that, except the 60D has a more rugged build quality and better ergonomics. It's more prosumer oriented than the T2i to say the least. I'm actually pretty much in the market for a 60D now.
The T3i and 60D are indestiguishable in build quality. The T2i is a step behind. I have both a T2i and T3i and there are subtle differences that really make the T3i a better tool. T3i and 60D are close but the 3x zoom function of the T3i is incredibly useful for my type of wildlife work. The 60D has better batteries and some nicer controls, but those are negated by installing Magic Lantern. That alone makes the 7D a boat anchor for video IMHO.
In the end of the day price and onboard audio monitoring with ML on the T2i are it's only redeming factors. The 60D and T3i have an articulating screen which is also very useful. From there it's between feel and handling of the two and the 3x zoom on the T3i to make your decision.
We are using 7D, 60D and 600D for our weddings. In my opinion t3i worth the extra 150$ over the t2i only for the articulating screen! I always wonder how I could shoot without that when I had the 550D...! In addition you get the 3x crop mode which I personally find really useful...! For the 60D you ll need about 250$ more and you ll have all ISOs and Kelvin temperatures for WB (T3is dont have that) but you ll loose the 3x crop. However if you plan to put ML, T3i is a better value in my opinion because it will have everything!
If you can find a used 60D much cheaper than a new T3i go for it...otherwise...T3i in my opinion!
T2i overheats quite a lot for me even with battery grip. I have done a wedding in a hot summer morning. We were shooting some preping shots. The groom arrived to pick up the bride, then T2i overheated.
T3i completely corrected the overheating issue. I would still suggest getting T3i with battery grip. The articulating screen, manual audio control, 3x crop zoom.. makes it very suitable for my wedding work.
