T2i should have it's own area in the forum?

But if it's the same basic thing, just cheaper -- why would it need or even want its own forum at that point?

DAMN! I KNEW IT! You ARE A T2i BELIEVER!!! :) (lol)

I hope that is the case. Please excuse the question if it was inappropriate, unwarranted, or unneccessary. I just had a question and wondered if it may point to a bigger need. I hear you loud and clear: from your perspective we may need to do the opposite. Squash 5d, 7d, and T2i all together. Okie dokie. :)

I think the 7D and the T2i/550D/KissX should have the same forum.

I also think the D90 forum should just be re-named Nikon and Pentax, as the D300s and D3S, and D5000 and Pentax stuff seem to be lumped there anyway...

You are correct that the t2i has taken over the 7D section, just like the 7D overwhelmed the 5D and the HMC40 washed like a tidal wave over the HMC150.

And yes, we felt the HMC40 deserved its own section, being a slow-sensitivity full-raster limited-feature lower-cost CMOS cam vs. the higher-sensitivity, pixel-shifted, more-feature-rich HMC150. Those owners were experiencing different ownership issues, and so even though they're both AVCCAM cameras, enough was different to warrant separating.

What I figure will happen is we'll hardly ever see another 5D post (pending the frame rate firmware update) and we'll shift balance to being 80% t2i, 20% 7D (assuming the general assumptions about equivalent video quality at half the price). If that's the case, why maintain separate 5D and 7D forums? Why not just pile it all in under "Canon HDSLR"?

I guess what I'm saying is -- when the process of working with it differs, and the type of questions that are being asked are fundamentally different, then the forums need to split to reflect that. But if it's "more of the same, at a lower price" then who really cares whether the question is about the 7D or the t2i, if it applies to users of both? We found that in the HVX/HPX forum, people seem to be being served plenty well, and I can't think of a single complaint or request for splitting them up since the HPX170 was first added to that forum. It's clean, efficient, and questions get asked and answered once, effectively.

Perhaps the same can happen with the SLRs. Maybe it can't.

Then again, we already do have the "The New Guys" forum, which is supposed to be a place for folks to hash out the new announcements until it settles down and we figure out which ones of these models is going to "stick" and therefore warrants subdividing DVXUser to make a separate specific forum for it.

I think the 7D and the T2i/550D/KissX should have the same forum.

If we are going this route....Barry mentioned the same....might as well add the 5d to it also. I can see community advantages here. I can see some usability/search problems here, but...I don't disagree that this is a very valid option.

I also think the D90 forum should just be re-named Nikon and Pentax, as the D300s and D3S, and D5000 and Pentax stuff seem to be lumped there anyway...

I was thinking we could name this the "POS" area. :) (Just kidding....come on people...I STILL shoot on the D90....I've got love for Nikon)

Not a "believer" in anything about any camera. Just a user. If it does the job I want done, I'll use it. Facts are facts, regardless of who they inconvenience.

Yes I'm looking at the T2i -- who wouldn't? May sell my 7D for it, if it's the same video at half the price. But I don't see the point in "believing in" or "having faith in" any of these products or companies; it's a simple matter of evaluating what it does, what it doesn't do, and what it costs.

I hope that is the case. Please excuse the question if it was inappropriate, unwarranted, or unneccessary. I just had a question and wondered if it may point to a bigger need.
Nothing wrong or inappropriate about the question, and it's one we've faced in the past and will undoubtedly face in the future. Unquestionably there will someday be a 5D Mark III, or a 7D Mark II, or a GH2, or a T3i, and we'll go through this all again.

Perhaps we should establish a temporary sub-forum for the buzz & hype phase, and once that's settled down, consider whether it should stand alone or be folded in with the rest. It's not an easy question to answer. We just would rather take our time and get it right, is all.

(no sarcasm) It's great to have people who have been doing this for years, (very successfully I might add) so that we all benefit from your experience. (EVEN ON SITE STRUCTURE FOR GOODNESS' SAKES!)

I do visit an comment in this area. It seems like some new comers (new DVXUsers) have mistaken this for "New Guys"...new PEOPLE in the community. :) It seems like there are a growing number of people in this community (like myself) who ONLY shoot DSLR and aren't planning on going back to spending 5K on ANY camera anytime soon. ...so the "New Guys" area gets neglected and posts end up in the DSLR area....that should probably be in there. :( No biggie.

I like that idea! I know that it is an ONGOING problem that will have to be addressed and I know that you all are MORE than capable. I just saw something, tried to help. No harm no foul. Cool.

I know you're not. I was just kidding. That's one of my favorite things about you Barry. When it comes to cameras, to Barry Green, NOTHING IS SACRED. I mean that in the MOST positive way. I don't have to worry that you might be "soft" and "nostalgic" about some camera....if it's getting it's BUTT KICKED...you're going to call it like it is!

As a 7D owner and this being my main camera forum (used to be hv20.com), I don't mind seeing all the 2Ti info...I'm as interested in it as anybody else. As long as it doesn't digress into a 7D vs. 2Ti flamewar and posts relivant info, I'm happy to run through the 2Ti threads. I plunked down 2K on the 7D and maybe I would have purchsed the 2Ti (I wont know until people get to play with it), but it seems these might be very simular video cams. Really quite amazing if they are...2K is already a killer deal...$800...wow.

Look at all the 7D threads with 5D info, T2i info, GH1 info, and vice versa. Having multiple subforums won't stop that. I think there are plenty of similarities between the T2i and 7D that having a single forum would be optimal and reduce overhead.

Right now the most interesting subject is the difference between the 7D and 550D. One forum or two they will always cross over.
