T2i T2i, or....

Why would you advise against it?
Also, i read in a couple places that you need a strong computer or something to process t2i video files, I have a campaq and am not buying a new computer.I will be blowing all my money on this camera. But if i dont get a better laptop will i be screwed?

It takes a lot to get use to filming with DSLR. You will need to adjust exposure and focus manually constantly.

Read the Canon DSLR FAQ stickied to the top of this section. There are pros and cons to using a DSLR- you can get good results, but there are serious limitations and a very steep learning curve if you're not coming from a film background (much more like the complex workflow of film than video cameras).

ok,so i went to a camera store in Burlington today, and since im a beginner I thought. Why not get the t3 since it hs less controlls and to be honast I wouldnt know what to do with half of them, save the mony I would have used to get th t2i and get a better lense? And is 720p vs 1080p that much of a diffrence, because I read somewhere that its not real 1080p? and they both shoot in the same FPS and HD.

Alright I have done some more research- I have narrowed it down to
Canon t1i
canon t2i
Panasonic gh1/ with firmware/hack thing( does the hack make this camera a lot better?)
I want to do slow motion, so 60fps? Also,I will be using a cam caddie, so i wont have nausiating video. I guess only thing I want to know is, which one has the best video quality for action, with decent stills, some manual controls, and is in my price range ~700..

Dont do the T1i... T2i or the GH1. I'll let someone chime in in regards to the GH1 as I dont have experience, but just dont do the t1i please..

i think a dslr is the wrong tool for this job. and a dslr without an articulating screen is even a poorer choice. if you MUST go dslr. go GH2, T3i or 60D. all have good articulating screens.

the reason i wouldnt choose a dslr for this is rolling shutter issues. and action sports covers a LOT of situations where that would be an issue. from my experience. the t3i has more pronounced jello-vision than the 60d...

The BLB13 batteries used in GH1 firmware version 1.0 or hacked GH1 is no info-chip inside. After firmware 1.0, Panasonic decided to add a info-chip in the battery just like the Canon 5D batteries. So it won't take any generic brand battery except those with Panasonic brand. The new BLB13 has an info-chip inside. So I have 2 types of BLB13. One is without Info-chip (cheaper), one with info-chip. If you have firmware 1.0 or the hacked GH1, you can use the one without info chip.

the t2i is quite a lot bigger than the gh1? I kinda of want that real camera feel, where its kinda big and posent feel and look like apoint and shoot.
I read a little more today, and started geeting into codecs and stuff for uploading the video to edit.
I ahve two editors, AVS editor and sony vegas pro 9, which for some reason I never render right. So what does the gh1 and t2i record in? Also, since the gh1 has the hack AND a articulated lcd is that enough to get the camera?
