T2i mic in static/hiss

Connected a Rode NTG-2 with a 1/8" to XLR adapter (shielded and wrapped in electrical tape too, ive used it on one XH A1 mic line in when its XLR inputs went unresponsive) and it is picking up a LOT of hiss. I have the mic at 15-20 feet away and it seems to be picking up signal noise from the T2i's (NO static from the XH A1 mic input) so i know its not the cables, mic, or battery powered NTG-2.

Anyone else have static issues? I dont record audio to the T2i's for work anyways (external or XLR'd into the XH A1), i was just testing to see if it would be a better solution than recording and syncing in post for my personal videos on vacations (we use my GF's 7D) vs cam and separate audio recording. Nothing technical, just a personal vainity, but this is irritating. I will test the 7D as well and see if noise is apparent. Its not terrible, but im somewhat of a perfectionist; sounds liek old vinyl hiss. Maybe its the AGC? I havent (and will not) use hacks/magic lantern even if they do nail AGC controls.

Hiss or agc? i think you should post an audio example.

i will when i get back home. i tested in a silent room and a noisy environment; im going to run some more quick tests tomorrow and also use the 7D with the same cables/mic rig.

Most likely the AGC, which in essence turns the gain all of the way up when it is quiet, and only turns it down when noises start happening. So, if you are in a quiet room you will hear the hiss (which is a combination of the camera preamp noise and the background noise in the room turned up really loud), and then when someone talks, it will go away, because the AGC is turning down the volume. A second later, it will come back in again.

The only canon DSLsR which can eliminate this are the 60D and the 5D.
