I have The T2i and i want to mount the H4n to use in Run-N-gun shooting format. Is there a certain somewhat cheap ($400 or less) rail/handheld system that you use to mount the H4N , Follow focus is not neccessary. Also I plan on getting a viewfinder, but may get a small lcd screen. Is there any system that would allow me to mount the H4n and the LCD ? Thanks

Try using something simple like this on the T2i hot shoe.
IKAN Camera Shoe Mount or like this...
The J-Cube By using the J-Cube you can mount up to 3 accessories on your cameras shoe and stay perfectly balanced and compact.

Either of these should let you use a recorder with the T2i with no need for rails or expensive rig setup.

Keep it simple handhold the camera or use a monopod for on the go stability. for

Looks nice, but is that actually safe for run n' gun use? It seems like it would wobble around and break off. :/

Have you used one? How is it?

What woudl wobble and break off?
The only issue that you might have to worry about with these attachments is that you don't put too much weight on your hot shoe. The attachments themselves are fine.

I haven't used eitehr of these, but I do have several camera shoe ball heads and they all work great.

I haven't tried the J-Cube yet, as it's new. But I have used their J-Ron twin with my video cameras and they work great. Again the only issue that I had with the J-Rod twin wasn't the attachment itself, but rather the camera's mic mount, and making sure that I didn't mount too much weight on it.

I use an old Stoboframe to mount my SmallHD monitor. It would work for an audio recorder too and it offers a larger side handle for extra hand held support. Then there is no pressure on the camera's hot shoe.

I have one, it holds things on very nicely but the problem with mounting my H4N is that it picks up noise of me touching/handling the camera.

Sounds like the Halo Rig mini would be a good solution for you. Accessorizes can be easily mounted along the top and crossbar, designed with the dslr/h4n user in mind.

Well myself personally would only use a recorder like the H4n or others for use with wireless devices and not the onboard mics. Onboard camera mics are useless anyway, as your mic source should be as close as possible to your audio source for good fidelity pickup. So if you are so concerned about using an onboard mic, just use one with the camera anyway and don't worry about the in camera AGC.

If I want to use the onboard mics/xlr inputs with the H4n, I place the unit strategically in the proper area and record.
After all if I am recording externally to a recorder then I'm going to have to sync in post anyway.
