T2i Display/Photo Problem

Hello,

I have recently discovered a problem with my T2i. This has been happening with videos before, to which I did not mind considering I do not film often. However, this problem started to emerge when I tried taking photos today and I have not seen any solutions to the problem. I saw someone have the same problem on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd4dYfM7RwI but there was no posted solution. Realizing that someone has already had this problem, I am hoping someone could help me figure this out. Thank you so much. Any help is appreciated. I am going for a vacation in a week and would really hope that this can be fixed soon.

I thought it was the memory card, but I have tried it out with no card and with other memory cards as well as different lenses. I have also reformatted the card I use, reset the camera and upgraded the firmwire.

I'd take that progressive problem (first video and now stills) as a sign the camera is beginning to "die" on you. The T2i has enough "age" on it I would NOT spend any money on repairs.

With a vacation coming up you're kind of "stuck" but I'd try to find a "point 'n shoot" I could live with for the vacation then start looking seriously for whatever your budget might allow. Something like a T3i or even 60D, the used market seems to have some at affordable prices. Look on amazon for "tenderly used" if budget is a restraint.

I do have a Canon G10 on hand so I might use that for now. Looking to get my camera get quoted on repairs. From those results, I'll decide whether it would be better to upgrade or do the repairs. It seems to be an on-off situation triggered by putting it on video mode and back to photo. It's currently working for stills but I rather not try my theory of putting it back on video mode. I was told it might be a loose wire, but I'll get someone to look at it.
 
This is not a common problem and will require repair/service.

Send it to Canon and see if the repair cost is less than the camera's value, if it is, go ahead and repair it, even if you'll use it someday as a B camera or give it away to someone. The T2i is still a fantastic video camera and very current as it still hasn't been updated.

Prices on amazon for used seem to be starting at $279 and going up to around $450. I think the higher asking prices are "pie in the sky" kind of hopes, ebay "buy it now" seems to be following the same pattern.

The "rule of thumb" I used to follow was if repairs would run over 50% of the camera's actual real value I'd shop for a newer camera.

The T2i is a nice camera, I had one. But today's electronic "marvels" don't seem to "age gracefully" and once a digital camera gets "flakey" on me I can never TRUST it again, even if fixed.

Imagine being at a spectacular location with an absolutely stunning view, and the camera you'd had some trouble with but had repaired suddenly develops a new "ailment".

No pictures.

Final bit of advice. Have a backup...Always have a backup.

I recently sold a Panasonic GH3 body to help fund the GH4, the buyer could not get along with the EVF on it so I offered to take it back and refund. It's due to be delivered tomorrow and I don't think I'll try to sell it again, it will become a "second" backup. I had two GH3s and was going to keep one as a backup, so now I'll have a backup to the backup.

Backup cameras saved my "tail feathers" on two weddings.
