T2i dial malfunction

Has anyone experienced the dial located above the ISO button malfunction? Its strange as I dont know what that dial is technically called, nor can I find any issues online with t2i's.

I cant use that dial for anything and its pretty critical. I did not drop it or do anything out of the ordinary. Was working when I left work, placed it in the seat next to me, drove home, sat it on my desk.. Decided I wanted to check out the 17-50 I acquired and noticed I couldnt make any changes. to f/ . I can use the arrows to adjust iso and whatnot, but I cant control F/stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I begin to panic.

o I feel like an idiot.. I dont use the battery grip buttons, but I was showing a friend the 17-50 and they clicked it on. I didnt notice apparently..

ehh.. nothing to see here folks... :)
