T1i vs. T2i

Hey guys, what are some of the differences between the T1i and the T2i, beyond the obvious 20 vs 24, and the lack of a mic input?

Basically, I've decided to go with a DSLR for a film I'm going to shoot, and since I want to keep it 1080P, I do want to use Canon. The budget for the film is about $1,500, to spend on equipment since the actors are doing it for free. Anyway, I want the T2i more than anything, I feel like it's the perfect camera for me, but for $800, it's pushing the buttons.

So then I checked on Ebay, and since everyone's dying to get rid of their T1i's, you can find them for $250 by decent sellers. This would be an amazing deal for me, I could have so much money left over to focus on possibly different lenses, good channel recorders, a good mic, filters and mattes, ect ect. So I'm wondering what are the major differences between the T1i and the T2i, beyond the 20P thing?

Is it true that the the T1i doesn't have anything much that can be adjusted manually for video? (Like shutter speed, ISO, white balance, ect ect?) I know it has like a 'creative auto' mode, but I've seen it on a review video and it doesn't seem very sensible...

t1i is totally automatic video and only 20FPS. It won't be a viable option for shooting anything serious.

I have seen many professional projects shot with the t1i. To the op I would suggest finding some people who have more experience with the t1i to full make your decision. Go to vimeo and try contacting some people who have some nice projects shot with that camera.

I have seen great footage shot with a t1i, nikon d90 and many other cameras that are really not talked about anymore. Before you buy a T2i ( which is an excellent camera ) I would suggest for you to do some more homework on this matter.

the t2i is more versitile than full-auto cameras.

personally, i wouldn't spend money on an auto vid dslr. you'll grow out of it pretty quick. especially if you have photo experience.

1080 on the t1i is lame.

Get the T2i and get some old M42 lenses and save money there. There's alot of vintage primes and zooms that are perfectly fine and can be had for $100 or less (way less sometimes) a piece. My opinion is that the T1i is a waste of money when the far more capable T2i is just a few hundred dollars more.

I've used the T1i before on a few projects and trying to exposure lock the camera while setting up a whole lighting scene is a complete pain in the ass. Not to mention you're forced into shooting 720p30 and shooting at 720p gives you lots of moire and artifacts. It honestly made me hate using HDSLRs for awhile.

But I changed my mind with the T2i. Full manual control over the camera is essential for any kind of shoot. Not to mention 1080p24 is a no brainer.
