Synch Issue When Logging & Capturing in FCP

I'm new so thank you for your patience if this is an old issue. I'm logging & capturing from the camera's 16 Gig P2 card via Firewire into an Apple G4 Powerbook 1.5 Ghz / 10.4.10 on to an external USB drive using FCP ver. 6.0.1. Sometimes all is ok but quite often the audio is out of sync and a bit distorted.

In FCP I'm in "non controllable device" mode and clicking "capture now".

why not just put the P2 in your laptop and log and transfer from a hhd copy or P2 directly?? Be a lot faster workflow. Why even bother capturing over firewire?? Your missing the whole point of mxf luxury.
