SYNC music video 24pn?

I just had another little worry:
The playback assist on set. We are getting a smart slate. I am not sure if it will be recorded to DAT - most likely - but will the format be in sync with the camera? I would imagine if we treat it like film aka 24fps, and the Dat playback assist will be transfered to mini DV and captured at 24pN ? (wait a second - the White paper on FCP says that 24pN capture is not supported at this time.)
This is starting to freak me out.
What is the answer? I havent had time to speak with the playback assist guy yet.

I've captured dat timecode before from mini dv - but at 29.97.
I am not sure how others are doing it yet with this new mixed medium....
answers please!!!!
thanx

OK, a few things to remember here. Although FCP will not "capture" 42pn, as nothing sends 24pn (a nonn-standard signal) down a Firwire cable. But if you capture it to P2 or FS-100, you can ingest it just fine, no problems for me so far.

As for sound in sync with video, many pro recorders give you film timecode as a convinience. It has nothing to do with the sound being recorded. Sound nativly is dependent on sample rate and bit-depth. So just get the best quality you can out of the audio equipment. The more sensitive your mics and such are, the higher sample rate you want to record at, just a rule of thumb. And nothing less than 24-bit sound!

Then, when you edit, make sure your Timeline is set for the same audio formating as the audio files you ingest into your project, and sync should not be an issue.
