SXS Card un-mounting itself

G'day,

Straight to the point, my 8gb SXS card un-mounts itself in my Expresscard slot (Macbook Pro). Thus, deeming it impossible to transfer footage as it appears the connections are faulty.

My 2nd SXS card works without any hassle.

In order to transfer footage off the faulty card, I must hold the card in the slot with my fingers and push it further into the slot. The card then transfers footage per normal.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their SXS cards?

Thanks,

Andrew.

He is not using SDHC, he is using SxS and it is an SxS card that is causing the problem.
I've never seen anyone report this before. It does sound like a faulty contact in the card.
I doubt its repairable, just get your footage off it and have it replaced under warranty or trash it... (can you afford to record to unreliable media?).

Thanks GuyB. I will look into the "warranty" from where I purchased the camera/Sony.
My first assumption is that warranties with flash style recordable media will be very very limited.

Lenilenapi, I am using original Sony SxS 8gb cards, feeding them into my Express-card 34 slot on my Macbook pro. No adapters, no work-arounds.

I will get in touch with whom I bought the gear from and let you guys know how I go.

Appreicate the replies,

Regards,

Andrew.

Remember that while the 8GB card may be a right off, there are much cheaper options avaliable that you can afford to just throw away if/when they develop a problem.

Ok, so the place where I bought the camera from have finally got back to me.

They're telling me to send the card back to them, so they test the problem. If they have the same problem, they will replace my card.

Will update everyone on how it goes again.

Thanks,

Andrew.

Andrew, I hope this is a "one off" problem. I have 4 SxS cards, 1 MxR card and 4 other ExpressCard34 adapter cards (Firewire, CF card reader, Matrox MXO2 adapter) and the adapter cards ALL are WAY too easy to dislodge. However, since the SxS/MxR cards are fully inserted into my MacBook Pro, I've never had a problem with them coming out accidentally. However, I feel that Apple did not make a very robust latching mechanism. Good luck and keep us posted.

I believe the Transcend cards carry a lifetime warranty. You can also register them on the Transcend site.

i just visited Transcend's website and read something similar to your quote, but there was a lot of exceptions. can anyone confirm this statement? does anyone have experience dealing with Transcend on warranty issues?

thanks.

Possibly lint or fluff in the contacts? give it a good blow out and add a contact cleaner like wd40 with a little brush in the slot on the sxs.

Tough to tell what the problem was.

Sent it off for repairs/inspection and they found nothing wrong with it.
They shipped it back to me and I have yet had any problems with it.

Fluff/dust maybe. Not sure. Random problem that happened to be, however it's no longer happening.
