Xpress 5.6.3 24p clip export trouble

I'm trying to learn more about how to edit efficiently using Avid and using Xpress Pro 5.6.3 on WinXP and QuickTime 7.1. I've edited a lot of 24pA footage with Premiere/Vegas and know my codecs and all very well, so I'm a bit unsure why this isn't coming out the way I want it to. Why is it so hard to just get a lossless 23.97 AVI?

I shot some footage with a DVX100b in 24pA, so I created an Xpress Pro project in a 23.97 timeline and captured the footage with a PD150. Everything captured easily and it appears Avid removed the pulldown while editing, so I made my edit in the timeline, and wanted to export it. I figured I would export it as lossless and just tweak the colors in AE a bit. But when I go to export it, I can't seem to find the right settings to get the footage out as a true 24p file.

From what I read from searching the forum, it is best to do a QuickTime Reference file and select Digital Mastering to get to After Effects. So I tried that with these settings: http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/6555/avidexport1sj7.jpg

Yet when I open the file in QT to check the render, I can see interlace lines, the playback stutters about once per second, and QT reports the fps as 29.64 (?!)

My system is not the bottleneck... I have no problem running anything in SD. 2.2ghz Athlon64, 2gb ram, 2x320g RAID0 (media storage), 1x74g Raptor (system drive). Thanks for any help you all can suggest.

I think I figured this out. I didn't try importing the above QT Reference file into AE yet, but when I did, it created a 29.97 comp and played back with interlace lines like QuickTime player did. If I change the comp to 23.97, AE appears to read the original OMFI file correctly and I see no interlace lines.

However, I thought Xpress removed advanced pulldown on capture, so shouldn't those files be in 23.97 on my drive? If so, why would I ever see interlace lines, even if it was played at an incorrect framerate, like QuickTime Player was, and AE was before I changed it to 23.97? Does capturing in Avid remove the advanced pulldown and apply a simple 2:3 of its own or why would this happen?
