Switch - experimental short shot on Nikon D90

Focusing really isn't that difficult, especially since the resolution is so low.

I shot this on the fly, under a black hood because of sunlight, without a follow focus with a 50mm 1.8 and it was fairly simple, so I don't think anyone should really have that much difficulty with it.

they're mass produced now for the G1. you have to get two adapters to fit your nikon lens on the gh1/g1. The panasonic m4/3rd to 4/3rd and a Nikon to 4/3rd, which comes to somewhere around $230

That was a nice video, had a creative little story attached to it, I loved the wide shots showing off the landscape then cutting tight with the 50mm, sure looked good on HD youtube to me.

can you not attach an external monitor to the D90? I thought someone found a way to get rid of the stair stepping thing? Also, is the workflow on PP CS3 decent?

Yeap, just gotta get a mini hmdi adapter. I use a 17inch dvi monitor. The stair-step is fixed if you apply the filter/script/displacement map...there's a sticky up to showing all the different methods. Papa, you're asking all the questions that's been answered dozens of times.

Really? That sounds not good. Maybe it´ll be an obstacle for some guys not to purchase the GH1...

Please be patient with me guys, i can only scroll through so many of the already existing posts. Be kind, don't get frustrated, not everyone has the time to take half an hour here and there to scroll through all the existing threads. Thanks.

You want to talk about questions that have been asked a dozen times? Check out the 35mm adapter section. But even there i would take the time for people who are new at the game, so i ask the same of you guys here.

I'm not sure if Koli's instructions mention to use an ND8 and polarizing filter to get the shutter speed right outdoors. Use a step up ring to avoid vignetting. Scrolling waves can also be a problem under CFL's.

Very nice job with the short film! I really enjoyed it.

I'm currently using an F->C-mount and C->m4/3.. works fine and ran $70 total. The F->C has a diaphragm plunger so I can even stop down lenses with out a ring. Only bummer is the 2X crop factor...

I've been practicing with the Nikon 17-35... It actually balances quite well when you handle it like a lens with a camera attached not the reverse... ;-)

Awesome short, I really loved the cinematography, right up my ally with that "flowing" hand held + no jello, great stuff man.

I have a D90 and have been contemplating shooting some music vids with it for a while, well the time has come and i think i have seen enough amazing results and tips and tricks to handle the beast to be able to shoot my own stuff.

I had one question; what process did you go through to mask the D90's monitor for 2:35:1

Thats the only thing i have yet to figure out for the D90 is cinemascope.

Thanks dude!

I didn't do anything. I just kept in mind that I was going to frame for 2.35:1 and shot on the fly. My eye is pretty adept to 2.35 since I crop pretty much every project I do in it.

And for some shots I just moved the cropping up and down just a tad to optimize.

If this is a problem for you I guess you could just get some translucent paper, cut it just right, draw the guidelines with a sharpie and a ruler and tape it to the viewfinder.
