FEATURE: Survival - The Feature, based on our Timefest Entry...

You guys do good work. Best of luck with the feature, I look forward to seeing it some day. If you want any feedback on the screenplay or (when you get to that point) on the edit, I'm always willing to help.

Awesome! We will keep you in mind when the time comes.

Might be heading up to Humboldt County on the weekend of the 24th to do some scouting and (hopefully) a little guerrilla teaser shooting ;)

Just finished a preliminary budget, but I might try another strategy simultaneously and see which one makes more sense.
Idea is this: are there more investors willing to risk their cash on a SAG Ultra-Low Budget Film (under $200K), or a SAG Low Budget film (under $2.5 million)?

Turns out it may be true: sometimes it's easier to get $2 million than $200K

This could get very interesting. Re-writing the budget as we speak. Er, as you read...?

I think 200k for an investor with a good business is like you and me loosing 1 cent and saying "well... .it happens...."

I'd say it's more like twenty bucks. Not enough to screw up your life in any way, but annoying when you know you had it before you did laundry...

But then, what kind of return would you expect? Double it? Triple it? Big deal. People with a lot of money are always interested in making a lot more (actually people with no money are interested in making a lot more too). Very few movies with that low of a budget make the kind of returns that make them impressive. The ones that do are the stuff dreams are made of :) But for every "Blair Witch Project" or "Paranormal" there are a hundred "Motocross Zombies from Hell".

Now $2 million, that's enough to hire an A-Lister for a few days. And while it doesn't guarantee a big return, movies with name actors get seen. Therefor they make money. Now is it likely to double $2 million with a name on the poster? To an investor with that kind of money to burn, I'm sure it looks like a lot surer deal.

I could be way off on this. In fact, I probably am. I'm not saying I know the secret to getting people to invest in a movie. Obviously it's never worked for me before.

But then, I've never asked for that much before, so how do I know if we'll get it if I don't ask? I don't need that much to make our movie, but if it means I can have Johnny Depp or, for this movie, more ideally Viggo Mortensen... might as well try, right? I'm sure they won't complain when we come in way under budget and can spend all that extra money on advertising :)

Anyway, whatever happens, my fellow dvxusers will be the first to know ;)

I'd love to see you get the funding you need...as you get a little further along, don't forget about Kickstarter... might be a good place to get enough for a really good teaser/trailer or POC?

It always take time, so just keep plugging along.... it will happen!

Thanks Zaza! We have looked into Kickstarter and it may be a very useful tool for us soon.

Standby.... I have to check in with a friend of mine who is part of a film investment group that's run by an entertainment laywer. They normally invest in "B" movies and usually see a nice return. It's tough to get in the group (I keep trying). They are always looking for projects... you never know?

Let me get some more info. and I'll PM you...

I like the pic. Kinda has an 80's, gritty raw feel to it. Nice!

Thanks! I was going for a kind of First Blood, Commando, Predator feel to it, with a little 70's exploitation thrown in for good measure. Soon we'll have a few more promo pics up that will give, hopefully, a more complete feel to it.

The gritty action is definitely an element, as you know if you've seen the short, but there is much more to it this time around. I'd like to be able to get that across through the artwork as much as possible, since it is going to be very "visuals heavy".

In fact, if we get a million fans by the time we start shooting, my sister will name her next child Megatron :2vrolijk_08:
