surveillance application

hello, i am new to the board...i operate an investigation agency and i am purchasing two cameras this week. i was looking at the z1u but have since decided on the dvx100b. i just wanted to get confirmation this was the right thing to do. we shoot video thru tinted glass and in all lighting conditions from clear and sunny to overcast and rain to dusk and even at night. typically i transfer video to my mac and create a time line for a vcd that can be watched on macs and pc's alike. still images are captured and incorporated in to our surveillance reports. we have been using older dv cameras and 8mm. it is time for me to step up and get some professional equipment. am i making the right choice with the 100b and its low light benefits and progressive vs interlacing qualities? i am trying to get the best vcd image i can along with clear still images of the activity we see in our subject's.

thanks in advance for any assistance..

The DVX is a great camera for all of those situations, but as far as trying to capture the sort of things you are trying to capture, I'm not sure if it's the camera for you. The DVX is meant to be white balanced and set up for every scene, and every scene even with the same exact lighting may be a bit different. I don't think you would have a good quality shot if you were spending a lot of time trying to setup for each shot when the action you want to shoot passes you by.

yeah..save some money..and get a Sony PD170. the DVX is a great camera..but for your apps i would have to say no.
