Super16 VS DVX

very entertaining, i like it. that super 16 looks awesome. Most of the dv footage, in fact, doesn't show the change in fps, except one sequence. Great job though! The audio was very well done.

the change was very abrupt.. for me anyways..

I could instantly tell the difference in framerate... it didn't look horrible by any means.. but it was like "VIDEO!" then back to film.... (the fake "24p" mode on that camera is really just 60i am I right?)

The DVX actually stands up rather well to 16mm when shooting under 24p... but those images were really nice... I love film.. has such a great look.

The DVC-80 which was used for the underwater portion of the film does not have any kind of 24p mode, nor did I try to fake one in post. We wanted the underwater footage to stand out completely against the Super16 footage (that and we didn't have the budget for an underwater film camera housing :) ).

I hate to be a whiny baby but could you please post a smaller file? I know to compare you want to keep the quality up but maybe using h.264 we'll still get a good idea? I'm sure a lot more people will view it then. Unless thats exactly what you don't want? Sorry again.

Sorry organism, I don't have access to the website. The admin (our director) is in Australia for the summer and I don't have contact with him. If you really want to see it I can create a smaller file and send it to you or something.

Man I could swear that I've seen the driver actor before. I just know his face. But I was like okay this is in Brazil... So it couldnt be right? Then I see the California license plate, and the guys have real thick accents, and then I see you're based out of San Diego, and shot with Alex's camera, so everything makes sense.
I love Alex's camera, shot a lot with it!

Underwater stuff looks good, can't really tell that it's not 24p on the computer monitor, but I'm sure it stands out a lot once you see it on a tv screen...

Yup, everything was shot here in San Diego. The opening/road scenes were shot in Proctor Valley, the beach was in La Jolla Shores, on the water was in PB, and the underwater stuff was shot off the coast of Catalina Island. FilmAlex's camera is great but we did run into a few issues with light leaks. We thought it was human error at first until we discovered awhile later that a few of the other groups who used it were also affected. If you have ever attended and festival in SD then it is highly likely you have seen the actor before. He's been in a lot of student productions. As far as that license place is concerned, I have no idea what you are talking about... :)

i thought i was great. i liek the simplicity and sparse camera work. The S16 looks amazing.
