Super Safety Back Up Plan Man

I'm going on the road for a month with my HVX WITH a card and a powerbook WITHOUT a card slot. So what do you think of my back-up/workflow plan...

- Shoot
- Turn Camera Off
- Turn Card Overwrite Protector switch to ON
- Plug in 1394 cable into camera (other end already in the Powerbook)
- Turn Camera On
- Press and hold the MODE switch until I go into "1394 Device" mode
- Hard Drive icon comes on on Powerbook Desktop. Grab entire folder and copy P2 card contents to the powerbook Hard Drive
- Wait
- Throw Camera P2 Device icon away in trash
- Turn camera Off
- Disconnect camera

Now I can do whatever to my footage on the mac...(eg: import into FCP, copy again, burn MFX to DVDs. etc.)

Seem Kosher?

There have been reports of files going missing on a "successful" transfer so you should go through and verify that it's all there before wiping the card.

PS - Love your icon.

Check p2 genie,

that could make life easier and isnt expensive at all....i did a similar workflow described to yours: but on pc-not in camera, but with the card in laptop via pcmcia, it worked always fine, but being a pragmatic, paranoied german, i always checked some clips of the card in the new folder on the hdd via p2 viewer...but as p2genie is coming now, ill be maybe a bit less paranoied....!

p.s. i am not mac based as i told you before, but be sure not to do it with fcp before version 5.1 (i guess!!), cause there seemed to be some issues and this could be pain in the ass, if you erase the cards after copying..!)
