The latest news from Consumer Reports suggests that the 720p format shot at 60 frames per second is capable of creating the illusion of 3 dimensions with the images that seem to pop off of the screen. Of course this assumes that you have a good television that has a high refresh rate that reduces motion blur. So have anyone noticed this 3 dimensional effect when shooting with the HVX ?

Doug Trumbull's Showscan format operates at 60 fps, and is very life-like. At least it was when it was used in an attraction at the Luxor in Las Vegas that I saw 10 years ago. IIRC from an article I read, Trumbull used 35mm film, running horizontally instead of vertically. Very realistic effect! I'm sure with the proper projection, HD digital could achieve a similar effect.

Yes the link is www.consumerreports.org This concerns a first look at the new Toshiba 720p televisions. Traditionally most LCD televisions suffered from motion blur but now the refresh rates are much faster. New technology LCD televisions are claiming a display capability of 120 frames per second but of course this is only frame doubled 60p. So when you watched the Showscan presentation did it seem almost 3 dimensional with the images popping off of the screen ? Most Cinematographers claim that the advantages of Showscan are only applicable to large format presentations such as 70mm film. But it seems that smaller formats such as 720p are capable of making images seem to pop off of the screen.
