super cheap DIY camera case

Hey guys,

I'm looking to make my own cheap camera case to put my dvx100 and it's accessories into. I was strolling around a bunch of stores and I came across two cheap options to make my own diy camera case.

It's rather I buy one of those 'Cooler Bags' that can keep your pop cans and drinks cold. It seems to have a good amount of padding to protect the camera. I was wondering if this might be a good option to use as a decent camera bag? I came across a number of these bags ranging from $10-25 that can fit a dvx100 inside.

There was also this idea I came across the net,
http://www.kifaruforums.net/showthread.php?t=18753. By using a container that can fit your camera and accessories into and buy some foam to place inside the container as padding. This type of diy camera case is relatively cheap as the container would only cost $10-15 and the foam or soft padding would cost another $10-15.

What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the cooler bag since it's much more portable and 'carry-able' and no work needs to be done to it since it already has a bunch of padding inside.

Looking forward to anyone's feedback, thanks.

Cheers,
Vic

I was curious if putting it into a cooler bag may be harmful for the camera? I was wondering if there's certain type of material when putting padding inside the case that may damage the camera in some what.

I've seen some people use that expanding foam stuff for filling holes with. Get your cheap plastic tub, cover it with some cling film (clear wrap) make sure you have plenty of excess all the way round.

Fill the tub with the expanding foam (not to much remember) and then push the equipment you want to protect into the cling film, thus creating a custom foam insert for next to no money.

Obviously, once the foam has set, you can then remove the cling film.....BAM.....drop the gear into it's own insert.
