Anyways I love the site and all the love you bring me. :P

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

welcome Judo!

You could of easily mimic the DVX to look like super 8 at a 3rd of the cost it would take to get your film processed. Other than that, pretty coo video. :)

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Hi Judo!

Not only did I love the song; I loved the VIDEO! Looked wonderful. Wow. As much as we strive for resolution and image perfection that SUPER 8 looks sweet! I am flashing back to my old 'Skate Shorts' I used to shoot.

What is Super 8 going for these days $ ? Did you Splice this or was it telicined? (The final cut I mean).

Great job. Fun song and a creative video; better than most music videoas I have seen in a long time.

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

thanks!
I know I culd but wuld´nt be the same... By the way I had like 15 rolls over from another production so the whole video budget was 250 dollar.
Mostly for the smokemachine I bought and the ring lamp I build. :)

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Good stuff! Now you make me want to use my super 8 I think I'm acutally going to use it now.

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

WOW! I watched this at the exact moment I needed to! This was TOO MUCH FUN! Thanks for posting. Excellent song, and GREAT vibe to the music video. Welcome.

EDIT:
I recently transferred a ton of old home movies from the 60's and 70's from my father's super8 collection to DV, then transferred to DVD. Memories...they light the corners of my mind.

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

That was awesome...where did you order your film from and what type of super 8 camera were you using? a beaulieu or something?

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Thank you very much!
I used a Beauliu 4008ZMII with Kodachrome 40 (I paid around 15 dollar with processing in Schweiz for each)
The camera is moded with a vide lens from Canon (original for the xm1)
I screened it with my friends projector on a A4 paper and filmed it with the dvx100A.
Cut and colorcorrected in Finalcut Pro.

Here is a pics on the set :)

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

That on camera light looks like a Kamio (Kino)

Did you make it yourself or.............?

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Hey Judo!

Really cool video. I absolutely love the colors. I am shooting a music video in two weeks and after watching your video I will have to shoot it both ways...DVX100 and Super 8. It will be real interesting to compare images.

Your music video has a real interesting look especially using the Kodachrome 40 for indoor shooting. I would have probably used the Ektachrome VNF 7240 but i think your choice was much better.

I am interested in the light you used. Do you have another picture that shows the light you used around the camera? Could you give us more info on the light you made?

Thanks

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Wow that was AWESOME!
I think you just convinced me to buy a super 8 ;D
so you projected the film then set up the dvx on a tripod and filmed it? sounds easy.
super 8 cameras are pretty cheap arent they? what about the film?

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

Rock'n Roll baby!!

I LOVE IT!

really powerful song and video, very nice shot and finished in a very original, stylish way!
keep on going like that, i'm looking forward to see more! :))

one question: how was this under water shot done? and is it possible, that you post some more technical images and infos of your selfmade ring light? the "ring-in-the-eye" effect looks close to seen in most pro musicvids. nice done for selfconstructed!

and another: are there more tracks (mp3) available from this band? want more!!

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

hey judo, post some pics of the ring lamp mounted on the camera and tell us how you built it.

Re: Super 8 with dvx100A

infokill:

Super 8 is really a cool tool to use and add to your videos. It serves as really nice B-roll footage. Plus it is real film...for cheap.

There are some companies that make custom Super 8 cartridges. What they do is that they insert 35mm film into Super 8 cartridges. The quality is real awesome...real grainy but real cool.

Oliver Stone uses a lot of Super 8 in his films...you can find a lot of articles about this on the web. Typically those films need to be ranked by some developing house...but if you buy kodachrome 40 or Ektachrome VNF film from Kodak (around $12 each cartridge...less if you buy 5 or more!) you can have them processed and view them using an old old projector.

On Ebay you can find some good deals on projectors and cameras. If you do not have one a camera yet get a Canon (Canon 514xl is a good choice...a Canon 1014 is an awesome choice) . Try to get one that used to shoot sound (eventhough they don't make sound cartridges anymore) but this will give you the chance to shoot 24 frames. All the rest will leave you with only 18 frames....makes it harder to synch sound if you are doing a music video...it is possible but tricky.

That's my two cents!
