C300: Sun a bit bright for monitor

I can't see the C300 MkI monitor while we are outside in the sun - it is really crap. Is there a hood or????? that can be used? Thanks

If the sun is a bit bright you should just turn it down.

I use sunhoods on my C300 Mark II and C100s on occasion. I'm sure they make ones that fit the C300 Mark I as well.

Just look at the size of the monitor, then look for sunhoods that are that size. Perhaps check reviews to see if other use it with the C300 Mark I.

The Hoodman hood works pretty well. A bunch of others would too; main feature to look for, I think, is a hood that's a bit deep to get rid of a bit more light.

Or perhaps look for a viewfinder/loupe that attaches to the C300's LCD. I'm familiar with the Zacutor Z-Finder. It's OK, though priced close to US$500. There are lots of lower-priced options; perhaps someone here can make a good recommendation.

I have the Zacuto Z-finder for my C300 Mark II and don't like or use it much. On rare occasions I'll pull it out. I mainly find it useful if I'm doing shoulder mount all day as the eye strain of focusing close with your eyes is fine for quick b-roll, but for non-stop shooting having a diopter that allows your eyes to focus at infinity is much less straining on the eyes.

Typically for b-roll I want more flexbility to adjust the monitor for say low angle, high angle, etc...a variety of shots, which is difficult to do with a Z-finder. So like I said, Z-finder I find mainly if I'm just staying on the shoulder all day, which is really just the occasional reality TV gig or live TV gig I do perhaps a few times a year.

The EVF is very usable. Have you tried that? I always use the EVF on the C100 MKII when I'm outside.

The EVF on the original C300(which the OP is talking about) is complete crap.

Plenty of hoods available for the monitor. But my recommendation is to get a real VF, like a Graticle or a used Alphatron.

I thought the the EVF on the original C300 was similar to the one on the C100 MKII, which I don't think is crap at all.

Everyone I've ever put my eye up to, including my own, is worse than the EVF's on most consumer camcorders I've seen. Are you sure you're not thinking about the C300mkII? I've shot on a mkII once and it is better than the original, for sure. And a lot of others out there seem to say that it's pretty good, as well. But I stand by my original comment that the original 300's EVF is no good. But maybe my standards, and therefore expectations, for an EVF of a professional camera are higher than others.

I got no problem with it when I need it. Now when I had the C100 mk1 that was crap, truly useless.
