Chris - Are you shooting on a DSLR now or are you waiting on the T2i?
I've been looking for clips shot with this lens and haven't found any myself. I took a gamble and got the non VC version for $450. Hopefully with the camera support, I won't need IS on the lens.
You have to be careful handheld, but it can be done, but even in steady hands and on a wider angle, I still notice hints of jitter's here and there.
IMO it's worth the extra cash in the long run, but the non VC version should get the job done in careful hands.
It's also great for photos - may as well take advantage of everything it can do - if the light's low and you can get a few more stops out of stills with a flash unit - hell use that VC to your advantage.
I agree the 17-40mm is limited, but in the end you will need more than a few lenses so better plan ahead. The 17-40mm is an L class lens at a lower than L class lens price, about half. I plan to add a 5D FF as soon as they release a new model with the upgrades complete from the factory. FF L lenses are a better value because they work on all formats. In the end you will want lenses from 10mm to 2000mm so to start building a high quality collection from the first lens is a smart investment. Every quality lens I ever bought I still have and use.
Try to look at the lens choices from the bad points and you will avoid buyers remorse in the future.
A lot of good answers. Thanks everyone!
