Suggested Lenses..?

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the whole photography/video world so please pardon my ignorance if from time to time I do ask questions that sounds that way. I'm actually very glad to have found a forum that's specialized in these type of things.

I ran out and bought my very first DSLR last night, the Canon 7D. Very excited until I realized I have no idea what I have in my hand.

It came with the EF 28-135mm IS USM lense, how good is this lense? What would be the best usage for this lens? Still photography? Videos?

I of course will be using this camera for photography, but I bought it more so for the portable movie mode it comes with. I want to get into shooting short films, music videos, etc... what should I know or look for when I'm trying to buy lenses to do this? What are all the initials and numbers representing? i.e. "EF" "L" "28-135" etc...
Also, spending hundreds and thousands on lenses will be difficult, so if anyone can point out some decent lenses that can serve it's purpose for a beginner that would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Really?? I don't know, I was leaning towards the 5D and came across some stuff made by the 7D and was thinking I would save a good chunk of money for a little less par results so went with the 7D. The one you mentioned seems to be a lot cheaper in price, I will read up on the specs tonight.
Thanks!!

Why did you buy something before learning the basics of how to use it? You could've walked into any camera store and had a nice, long, productive discussion with any of the employees there, who would presumably have been very knowledgeable and helpful about the basics.

Sometimes we need to contain our enthusiasm before we find ourselves in over our heads.

The performance of the T2i (also known as the 550D) is virtually identical to the 7D. You get the same frame rates and resolutions. You lose the ability to dial white balance in Kelvin increments. ISO adjustments are only available in full-stop increments, instead of 1/3rd stop. The T2i has inferior ergonomics and lacks weather-sealing. I think that that covers all of the differences that are relevant to videographers.
