Successful shoot today = Minus some problems

Only 1 16Gb Card and 1 Battery, the battery died on me and my card got filled up pretty quick. For future reference I recommend anyone shooting video to have at least 2 16Gb cards and 2 batteries.

The other problem I had was for the first time I got the overheating signal flashing on my camera in the middle of a shoot, very very very horrible when that happened. I turned off the camera immediately and after 5 minutes started shooting again and thankfully the overheating icon never showed up again, even after 2+ more hours of shooting.

Overall I must say that I truly love my T2i and thank my good friend who helped me pull focus and help with lighting the entire shoot. This was for a music video and hope to have it edited and posted soon.

Awsome. Look forward to seeing it. Thanks for the tips. I've just ordered 2 spare batts and will be working with a 32gb and 8gb on a music video tomorrow.

Sound good! Just remember to turn off your camera when not in use to save battery and if you get the over heating icon turn your camera off ASAP and let it cool for 5 minutes, you'll be fine after that.

Truly a great camera, it comes with it's problems but knowing your limitations and working around that to achieve your footage is part of being a film maker IMO.

Good Luck with your shoot!

I have two Canon batteries and two cheapo Ebay ones. I make sure all are charged before shoot and whenever one goes out I switch and throw that one on a charger, but even if I don't have power to charge, Four batteries always makes it through a shoot.

any link to the ebay ones? i wanna grab a couple of extras to have without the $85 price tag. (I live in Canada where they make everything more expensive)

They are up on ebay already, but I don't wanna be the first to test if they explode.
Just search for t2i battery, or the battery model number. I saw them yesterday.

There are people here who just keep shooting when they get the overheat warning. They haven't noticed any detrimental effects and I beleive the camera shuts itself off anyway when it reaches a certain temp. If its that bothersome, just ignore it. Others have with no repercussions.

The manual specifically warns that as the chip gets hotter, the quality of the video degrades. You would probably notice it as grainier/noisier footage.

i went through 12 4gb cards at an event yesterday. i made sure to turn off the camera at any given break in action(as the Emcee was speaking introing hte next group, etc) the 5d performed flawlessly, and never overheated. I however, can always use practice!

Yeah, well I was shooting indoors with lights everywhere so it was beyond hot in the indoor location we were shooting at. It had to be 90+ degrees in there.

Thankfully though after a quick 5 minute cool down everything was back to normal, definitely something to think about when shooting with HDSLRs as I never had that problem shooting on a Dvx.

One point that might be of use to someone . . . . . when resting a hot camera . . . take the battery out and leave the battery door open . . . saves (a tiny amount) of 'trickle' battery power and puts a great big cavity in the camera where the air can get in to help the heat dissipate, also removes a warm battery away from the camera !

I am also making a body cap with a heat sink on to replace the lens !!

Hot sensor = noisier footage.

Someone, somewhere (with either a 5D or 7D) did some extensive testing with a hot camera and then a cooled camera, the difference in quality was quite a bit, more than you might assume.

Link? Sure hot vs cold in two totally different environments might be a lot but room temp vs hot warning in the same room might not be that much.
