Success With Component Out

Just tried going component out from HVX to Kona HD10A component to SDI converter and then SDI into Kona 2 to FCP. Absolutely great, in this case just to do video captures of the menu system. I am presuming that this component output is wired before the DSP so that the component HD coming from it is uncompressed.

Last Thursday I did a bunch of component out captures via the HD10A both in 1080i and 720 60p. Both modes worked flawlessly. This was going into a PC based VelocityHD board.

One caveat... I don't think on any platform there is a way to remove the redundant frames from a 720 60p stream if you're not getting the video over either firewire or HD-SDI (which the HVX doesn't have). Analog component doesn't carry flagged frame info, as far as I know.

I can absolutely confirm that the component out is pre-DVCPRO compression... I can't wait to share what I was doing, but have to wait until I get a temp web page built for it all...

In my case I didn't need audio, but with the AJA people have reported taking audio in via firewire at the same time.

I did not use audio either with this test. But going from Sony HDV camera component, I had taken audio from firewire and even use firewire for deck control. The other option is take the composite audio to a Flying Cow and then the digital output into a capture board.
