hey all, i am in need of a shoulder mount kit for my GH1. there are many different things out there (including super expensive things like zacuto). and then there are super cheap things like spiderbrace.

well i need something that is stable, well put together, very usable, but is also not thousands of dollars. i really need something in the sub 500 dollar range. any ideas? and if you have suggestions of buying different things and putting them together, could you please provide links to the products i'd need? i remember seeing a guy on here who bought an insanely awesome looking kit for a great deal on ebay for like 150 bucks recently, but that seller wasn't selling any more of them :/

so yeah! help please!

[edit - maybe i should change what i'm looking for to some sort of DSLR "rig"]

Here's the thread to the Korean kit that I think you're mentioning above. I just received mine today. It is pretty amazing...not only for the price, but for a lot more. Need some good thick grips, but it's pretty nice. You can configure them a lot of ways.

I think, as of today, gini.1980 (ebayer) is still selling various versions. The key is that you put in an offer. I think the one I bid on was $450, but I bit on it, 8 knobs and a tripod adapter plate and got it all shipped for $260.

Good luck.

how do i know that i'm getting the right one/same one as you? he's got a lot of different ones

I don't. It was just an assumption.

See if this link works, to the one that I bought.

From what I remember there are the smaller units that seem geared towards the DSLR's and rightfully so and a couple look larger, but I really didn't pay too much attention. The one I got was very compact. I have a shoulder mount from Birns and Sawyer and I won't use it with the GH1 because it looks like I'm joking around because it's about 50% too large for DSLR. Anyway, I think there are ones that are a bit larger.

Many of the auctions seem to vary, mostly, between having the shoulder pad (probably not the best thing to call it since it's aluminum) and not having that piece.

In any case I bid $100 for the rig with the small shoulder brace on it and won.

Don't know exactly which one you were looking at, however.

If you want me to put in on my camera and adjust it some way for you so that you can see the real item, send me your email in a PM and I'll try take a phone picture with it and send it to you.

Good luck.

The kit I got from gini.1980 had rods that screwed onto and fit my Zacuto rods. This was a very nice surprise.

Thanks for the tip. I'm about to order some extra rods as well as thinking about supplementing the kits with some Zacuto pieces.

I would think that the gunstock might screw into gini's rods as well...sounds like that would be the case with what you're saying????

thanks,

Jason

just put in an offer of a $100 bucks on the one that looks the best for my GH1. we'll see if he takes it, hope so!

Good luck Paul. The product is so adaptable that I can't imagine you can't find one to work right. All his offerings just look like different versions of the same thing (with additional bits and pieces) I've been taking mine apart. Taking pieces off, etc. I mentioned above buying a riser, a few rods and some extra joint adapters....and then you could do even more. Make it big. Make it small.

Keep us posted as to how you come out.

only thing im really confused about on this rig here is what that riser thing in front of the tripod plate is for? does the lens sit on it? if so it looks too high?

Just got my parts from this seller (tripod adapter plate and DOF adapter <to help reduce the effect of torque from the follow focus>) and I was knocked off my feet. Extremely nice product, solid as a rock build quality and I got them for dirt cheap (and FAST). He/She takes offers quite a bit lower than the original. I'll be buying from them again but I suspect that as soon as the majority of people become aware of this seller the prices will go up!
Shop with confidence!!!

That riser is supposed to be a DOF adapter. I got mine and didn't need that piece. Its a nice rig, solid works well. Good prices, however I got a cross angle rod connector and one of the screws were off center and protrudes into the inner hole and prevents rod from sliding into hole freely. so, its possible to get a bad defective part. :(
I'd recommend this kit over the prices of RR or Zacuto. I got mine configured like sharpshooter. ;)

Cheers,
Dave.
