Stupid Question? (putting wide angle adapters on lenses)

I have a Nikon mount adaptor for my GH1...but the 2x crop factor is semi-bothersome. I was bouncing around ebay for nikon lenses, and noticed people were selling 52mm .45 Wide Angle "filters."

Filters is probably the wrong word.

So I'm wondering, if take my 28mm lens that has a 52mm thread mount on the front and attach a .45x wide angle filter...what would happen? Would that even work?

Sorry if this has been asked before or if it's a horribly stupid question to ask.

If my understanding is correct, your GH1 will see the same field of view as a full frame sensor would see with a 25.2mm lens. If that's what a wide angle adapter is meant to do, no reason it won't do it here.

So...is this a solution other people have used? I mean...my only real reason to use the kit lens is to have autofocus OR have a suitable wide angle lens. If adding a wide angle adaptor to a 28mm will reduce the 2x crop factor effect, why don't more people use it?

This kind of excites me. :)

Wide angle adapters tend to lower the overall quality of the image - they become less sharp than what the lens is really capable of giving you, you might get more chromatic aberration, and the edges are often less sharp than the center which can be distracting.

But in the right situation, there's no reason not to experiment around and see if one works for you.

I did the experiment the other day. I first found it is impossible to get a good focus. Then, today, I talked to Schneider people and they told me if I used a lens in macro mode, I will get the focus working. it is because the lens is now focusing on the optical plane on the wide angle lens.

I don't have the lens with me now but I will try out sometime tomorrow.
