Stunning low budget video that looks like a high $$ production - shot on 7D

Dark Side of the Camera
Dan Blank (Director etc.) did a jaw dropping job on the new music video for the vintage dance troupe, The Satin Dollz .

Filmed in Hollywoodland, California in glorious 7-D.
Produced for less than $2000.

I was surprised when I spotted my old friends, Ian, Ken and John of The Jive Aces in that great flick.

Also check out the VFX breakdown.

damn!
What he said.

I'd like to see a budget breakdown. I saw more than 2k in costume rentals alone...

Last shot was great.

Crafty alone on that shoot had to be close to $2K.

They must have had absolutely everything donated, including man-hours.

Not stunnig postproduction but very good one, and yes I love it!!!

Actualy some of the real shots looks very good.

Could be they owned a lot of stuff already, like green screen studio and camera equipment and borrowed a lot.

With my contacts, I could probably do something similar for a similar cost, although replicating the quality of the creative side like production design, music, acting, camera work and direction would obviously be the big problem.
I couldn't do that.

This was a promo video for a group of hobby chorus girls, so they took care of hair, costume and make-up.
Lot´s of that stuff is shot in Dan´s apartment.
You can do things like that very cheap if you are creative.
I guess most of the money went into that greenscreen and pizza for the crew.

But you guys may want to head over to Vincent LaForets Blog where the Producer and Director of that flick Dan Bkank says some words on that production and budget.

Creativity will indeed go a long way. However, it will not go THAT far without massive donations -- as I said, both in material and in time.

In real terms, this video cost much, much, much more than $2K. You only get down to $2K if you're "creative" about which costs you don't count.

Look, everyone wants to think they can make "Hollywood" films for $100 and pluck, and these videos get bandied about by people who want to buy into that dream.

But it just doesn't happen.

I see what you're saying, absolutely.

But if the guy didn't spend more than 2000 bucks, then in real terms, that's what the video cost to make. Even if it's worth a whole lot more.

The music video is great, however there is one BIG problem!!!!!
Why is that girl who sings full of moles?? You can see them even with all the makeup and powerful lights. Yuck! Honey, if you want to be in the show-bussiness get rid of them!
